The first step to better health care and access for people across our state is collaboration with like-minded organizations that can help us deliver better value and improved access. That’s why it’s so meaningful that UNC Health and Blue Cross NC shared today that we’ve reached a long-term agreement to continue our long-standing work together.   What does this mean for North Carolinians?   1. Rural areas benefit from this collaboration. All Blue Cross NC members will have access to UNC Health, no matter where they live in the state, and the four-year agreement will enable further collaboration on new ways to improve care and access for patients across North Carolina, especially in rural areas. 2. Strong collaboration matters for our state. Together, our organizations have joined forces including conducting a clinical study to improve food security and chronic conditions and creating a physician’s assistant master’s degree for veteran medics at the UNC School of Medicine..     3. Stability provides peace of mind. UNC Health and Blue Cross NC have worked together for many years. Unsustainable levels of burnout and intention to leave among primary care physicians (PCPs) are widely recognised – but responses haven’t yet addressed the excessive job demands that underpin these trends and contribute to the time scarcity that PCPs experience day-to-day. This time scarcity is problematic for patients too. This paper explores how time constrained PCPs identify and address patient safety issues and high-risk situations in five types of patient care episodes: high-risk social situations, high-risk medication regimens requiring patient education, high acuity conditions requiring immediate workup or treatment, interactions of physical and mental health, and investigating more subtle clinical suspicions. PCPs detailed how taking extra time during these visits changed their clinical management. The findings make clear the importance of ensuring sufficient slack in scheduling to enable PCPs to respond to patient care episodes that are time sensitive, time intensive or require flexibility. Time to make #primarycare a #priority Great care cannot be rushed, and the greater the social and emotional needs of the population you serve, the more important #slowmedicine becomes. When clinician productivity is treated as a commodity, rather than an approach that values the clinician-patient relationship, we end up right where we are: poorly managed chronic disease, excess mortality, soaring costs, exorbitant rates of burnout among healthcare workers and completely dissatisfied patients. We need an abrupt transition to #valuebasedcare and #incentives for #outcomes Fee for services coupled with profiteering leads to debacles like the Steward story.

Can you measure the impact of compassion on patient trust? Yes! In fact, researchers at Cooper University Health Care and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Cooper Medical School of Rowan University recently received a two-year grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to study disparities in doctor-patient relationships. Specifically, the study will use a scale that the researchers previously developed and validated to measure patients’ experience of compassion from doctors during clinic visits, and test for disparities in compassion by patient race and ethnicity as well as patient socioeconomic status. Stephen Trzeciak, MD, MPH, chief of medicine at Cooper and professor and chair of medicine at CMSRU is principal investigator on the grant, with Brian W. Roberts, MD, MSc, a physician-scientist in emergency medicine at Cooper and CMSRU, serving as study director. “By studying and understanding different evidence-based aspects of compassion, the medical community will be positioned to provide better care for patients, as well as better training for the next generation of health care professionals-” Dr. Roberts. 💡Value Add 🔄Consistency In this fast-paced space of medtech, I’m figuring out that the top two attributes a Clinical Account Manager can have when it comes to outreach are clearly providing value and being professionally consistent. Especially as pioneers in #MRgFUS therapy for #EssentialTremor and #TremorDominantParkinsons, this job isn't easy. A lot of it is figuring out on the fly and getting used to rejection... there's a framework but no playbook. This is why I love it so much. Market adoption is often a case of feast or famine that requires attentive patience, persistence, and knowing exactly when to attack and take advantage of opportunities. Delivering intentional value and maintaining a professional, consistent approach, fosters trust among the neurologists we engage with and the communities we serve, which is essential for market adoption. I've been focused on educating and raising awareness about #FocusedUltrasound among providers up and down the coast of Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego including participating in community events like Sharp HealthCare’s Women's Health Conference to supporting the Parkinsons Association's Step by Step 5K Walk in their DBS/HIFU Pavillion. Providing this consistent value will make an impact in expanding awareness of #FUS as a treatment option for communities in Southern California.

Reflecting on the past month✨, I had an experience that truly left a mark ❣. A month ago, I found myself facing an unexpected challenge – an accident that led me to Maastricht UMC. It was a unique situation for me, as it was my first time receiving care here in the Netherlands🇳🇱. I am filled with nothing but gratitude for the entire team at Maastricht UMC+ ❤️ The care I received was nothing short of exceptional – from the moment I entered the emergency room, through the follow-up after my visit, to the subsequent appointments with specialists to monitor my progress. What struck me was the commitment to patient care, evident even in the satisfaction surveys they shared after each interaction. It's clear they are dedicated to continual improvement.🫶 Discussing with one of the doctors, we touched upon their genuine satisfaction with working in the public health sector in the Netherlands. The emphasis on seeking solutions rather than discrimination is truly heartening. It's a stark contrast to some other countries, like my homeland Chile🇨🇱, where a backlog of over 2 million people waits for public health care🤕. This experience highlights the immense gap in learning and improvement, presenting an opportunity for meaningful action. It's heartening to witness how the healthcare industry is evolving towards patient-centered care, bridging gaps and creating solutions. Today we share Anne Wilson’s enlightening conversation with Professor David Putrino. We need dedicated research on bedbound patients – so often they are excluded from research because it is viewed as "too hard" to involve them, which is not the case. Making reasonable accommodations for bed- and house-bound patients to participate in research is, in fact, good and ethical research practice. In addition, we need comprehensive educational resources to share the knowledge of some of the physicians and clinicians who have experience in treating these patients, so that more clinicians can come to understand how to manage the care of these individuals. Too many patients living in this situation are viewed as "too difficult" and many clinicians don't even know where to begin. Skilled education can help here and can provide many clinicians with a roadmap of ways to improve quality of life for these individuals who are living in very tough conditions.
