The five primary pillars of the United Nations Youth Strategy—partnerships, data, resources, advocacy, and engagement—was launched to assist empower youths globally when it was implemented, from 2018 to 2021. It prioritized youth involvement in meaningful decision-making processes, leveraged data to promote evidence-based policies, empowered kids through advocacy, helped form alliances with a variety of stakeholders, and mobilized resources to address the needs of young people. By focusing on these areas, the strategy made the most of young people's ability to be positive change agents, encouraged sustainable development, and created a society for more inclusiveness and justice. Interestingly, the impact of the United Nations youth strategy is still felt to this day, and still strengthens the youths to take active decisions in government policies that affect them. #unitednations #youth #strategy #partnerships #globalpoliticsaffairs #advocacy

Here’s the catch – without a unified voice, the #impact of countless organisations working to create a better future risks getting lost in the noise. With so many groups advocating for #justice,# sustainability, and #progress, their #efforts can sometimes be fragmented. Unified advocacy is the game-changer we desperately need to cut through the noise, bringing diverse voices #together to amplify their #collective impact. Started January with a workshop exploring Climate Justice, intersectionality and eco-anxiety with UK Youth Climate Coalition for young campaigners (16 to 18) at The Advocacy Academy. The young participants have designed campaigns around migrant rights, housing rights and mental health advocacy. We explored how the climate crisis affects these key issues and looked at the climate crisis at local and global scales. Always refreshing to hear how young people are already critically thinking about the world they live in and what they want from it. #ClimateJustice

"Policy and advocacy teams within international charities have a lot of potential influence on power-holders and organisational leadership, but too often they are disengaged, face other barriers or do not know what to do to further anti-racist and decolonial approaches. Our project, This is the Work – a collaboration between Bond, Peace Direct and supported by the Advocacy Team – – aims to bridge this gap. Adopting anti-racist and decolonial approaches is not an additional task or checkbox for compliance; it is the fundamental work that policy and advocacy professionals should be doing as part of their daily responsibilities to advance the demands and voices of marginalised communities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)."
Bond, Peace Direct, and The Advocacy Team have created a new set of resources and findings focused on advancing anti-racist and decolonial approaches in international policy and advocacy. Bond’s Lena B. and Katherine Strasser-Williams and Peace Direct’s Kit Dorey introduces us: https://bit.ly/3C7Q2IC

Youth advocacy is the active support and promotion of the rights and interests of young people. It involves empowering young individuals to speak up for themselves, make informed decisions, and advocate for positive change in their communities. Through youth advocacy, young people are able to address issues such as education, healthcare, social justice, environmental sustainability, and more. By raising awareness, mobilizing resources, and influencing policies, youth advocates play a crucial role in shaping the future and ensuring a better world for generations to come. To be an effective youth advocate, one must possess strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a passion for social justice. It is important to listen to the voices of young people, empower them to take action, and provide them with the necessary support and resources to make a difference. Overall, youth advocacy is a powerful force for positive change and a vital component of building a more inclusive and equitable society. By standing up for the rights and well-being of young people, we can create a brighter future for all.
