Today is #WorldMosquitoDay. #Malaria is a life threatening disease caused by a parasite transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes. It disproportionately impacts low- and middle- income countries, especially children who accounted for over 462,000 malaria related deaths in 2022 alone. The #LONGEVITYproject consortium (funded by global health agency Unitaid) strive to provide long-acting malaria prevention options to LMICs. The current phase of this involves very close work between Centre of Excellence for Long-acting Therapeutics and School of Pharmacy at QUB. Today is #WorldMalariaDay, highlighting the ongoing fight against this preventable and treatable disease. Improving malaria screening is one of Aqsens' main research focuses, and we're proud to collaborate with Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) in Ghana on our malaria screening test project. Take a look at our World Malaria Day post from last year to learn more about what we are doing together with the NMIMR to improve malaria screening👇 https://lnkd.in/duucMRDh #EndMalaria #ZeroMalariaStartwithMe

Hope and science are a powerful combination. Twenty-five years ago, malaria treatments were failing. Patients were taking medicine but weren’t getting better. The situation was dire. We are at a tipping point in malaria elimination. The progress we have made against malaria in the last two decades is nothing short of extraordinary. But we’re not done yet – with over 600 000 people still dying each year from the disease. Working with Chinese partners, Novartis launched a new therapy in 1999 that transformed the treatment of malaria and contributed – along with prevention tools and better diagnostics – to averting 2 billion cases and saving nearly 12 million lives. But progress has stalled, and increasing resistance to existing agents threatens these hard-won gains. It’s time to act if we want to make malaria a problem of the past. I am Proud to be part of Novartis who is in fight against Malaria. How about you? #WHA77 #EndMalaria #Malaria #NovartisTogether Michael Adekunle Charles | Abdisalan M. Collaboration is essential to lead change. Only with the help of different agents, can we become stronger and find solutions to one of the most prevailing diseases: malaria. Most prominent in Asia and South America, it is the cause of around 700.000 deaths a year, and that is why we need innovative approaches focused on prevention and the integration of new treatments, vaccines, and diagnostics to control and eliminate this condition. At One Against Malaria, we are committed to developing and facilitating access to new therapeutic solutions that block transmission of the disease and prevent infection. Only through such initiatives promoted by Merck Healthcare, as well as increased investment in research, that we will help the most vulnerable regions to eradicate the disease and improve the health of their populations. Urgent action is needed to tackle this health and social problem in order to reach the World Health Organisation's goal of zero malaria by 2025. Together, we are making science work for life and health. https://lnkd.in/dm3rxyb9 #WorldMalariaDay #EndMalaria

Malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites transmitted through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, remains one of the deadliest infectious diseases worldwide. Every year, it impacts hundreds of millions and causes over 400,000 deaths. The spread of malaria poses a significant global health threat, leading to severe complications such as acute anemia and cerebral malaria, which can cause long-term disability or death without prompt treatment. Early diagnosis and effective treatment are crucial to manage these risks and control the disease's spread. The Grifols Procleix Panther system is essential in this effort. It stands out as the only nucleic acid testing (NAT) solution for malaria, capable of detecting five different Plasmodium species within just 3.5 hours for the first five tests, with additional results available every 5 minutes thereafter. This rapid and precise diagnostic capability is a key tool for timely medical interventions. As we observe World Malaria Day, Biorus is dedicated to advancing the fight against malaria with cutting-edge solutions like the Procleix Panther system. Our aim is to ensure rapid, precise testing is accessible to those most at risk, helping to eradicate this deadly disease. #MalariaAwareness #RapidTesting #Diagnostics #NAT #Blood #Malaria #WorldMalariaDay #biorus

Raising Awareness About Cerebral Malaria. How much do you know about cerebral malaria? I recently learned about the heartbreaking loss of a young teenager who succumbed to cerebral malaria, a devastating reality that affected a dear coworker of mine. Malaria, a life-threatening disease, remains a major public health problem, with over 600,000 deaths globally in 2020, mostly in Africa. Cerebral malaria is one of the most severe forms of the disease, characterized by neurological symptoms. Prevention includes the use of mosquito nets and antimalarial medications, while treatment involves early diagnosis and administration of antimalarial drugs. It is essential for communities, healthcare providers, and policymakers to intensify efforts to combat malaria. Let's honor the memory of those lost by raising awareness and supporting initiatives to eradicate malaria. Together, we can save lives and prevent the suffering caused by this preventable disease. April 25th is World Malaria Day 🩸💉 On this day, we give thanks to our inspirational clients who carry out groundbreaking work to end the fight against malaria. There were an estimated 5.2 million cases of malaria throughout Southeast Asia in 2022 (1). While this number has seen a significant decrease from 2013 (13.2 million cases), more work is needed if we are to reach the ultimate goal of 0 cases across the region. This years' theme is accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world 🌏 We are incredibly proud to play our part in helping improve access to safe and effective medical devices for malaria treatment and prevention. Let’s continue to build bridges to overcome healthcare inequality while fighting this deadly disease! 'In conclusion, interventions targeting key motivating factors that influence the adoption of positive behaviours for malaria prevention and control if well conducted, can contribute to significant improvements in malaria-related outcomes, ultimately reducing the burden of the disease on affected populations. In addition, overcoming barriers to malaria prevention and control should be participatory and involve community members at the center of all interventions.' https://lnkd.in/gdj3Ccqa
