#DYK, 60% of people with schizophrenia and 50% of people with bipolar disorder do not recognize that they are ill? This lack of insight can be frustrating for family and friends who often think their loved one is in denial. However, anosognosia, the inability to recognize when you have an illness, may be at the heart of such situations. Learn about a powerful communication technique, L.E.A.P., which can help drive a person-centered approach for caring for people with mental illness and anosognosia. https://lnkd.in/enBDNsjx. #mindfulmatters #behavioralhealth #mentalhealth #schizophrenia #bipolardisorder

🟢May is Mental Health Awareness Month. 🟢People Matter, Words Matter. Words can transmit stigma. Studies have shown that people with psychiatric and/or substance use disorders often feel judged, outside and inside the health care system. This can lead them to avoid, delay or stop seeking treatment. The way we talk about people with a behavioral disorder can change lives – in either a positive or negative manner. Behavioral health and language experts released a series of downloadable posters to help adopt people-centered, respectful language. 🌐You can view, download and print posters to share with your team members to encourage the use of this language here: https://loom.ly/19lDiCU #MHAM2024 #MentalHealthMatters #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #OHSAI #HeadStart #EarlyHeadStart

Today, Christopher Palmer asked an important question on X: Should we abandon the term "treatment-resistant mental illness" and replace it with "in need of referral to another clinician?" The answer is a resounding YES! Mental health care is not one size fits all, and a patient's lack of response to a particular treatment does not mean they are resistant. Rather, it may indicate the need for a different approach or a referral to a specialist. Let's prioritize finding the right care for each individual rather than labeling them as resistant. #mentalhealth #rightcarerightnow #NAMI #schizophrenia #psychosis #clozapine #ketogenicdiet #brainhealth
