As a relatively new fundraising manager but a long time gift officer, I felt this in my bones. What are we actually measuring with all of these neverending metrics conversations? Often, things that mean next to nothing and take longer to compile than they are worth. When you look it what is connected to my professional success, it's hard to quantify. But I can tell you meaningful relationships are not measured in cold calls and hours worked. It is sitting with people, addressing their hopes and dreams for their philanthropy, and creating a shared vision of the future.
