NHVR Case Learnings May 2023 If you are an importer in Australia, you also take on the role of "Consignor" What have you done to ensure compliance? Guidance for Consignors The case provides some reasonably practicable measures consignors can take to reduce or minimise the risks associated with load restraint for heavy vehicles, including: • Ensure that Australian safety regulations are complied with by ensuring: • Gaps and void spaces are filled with empty pallets, rated inflatable dunnage, foam, custom framing or other suitable material. • Lashings, webbing nets or gates are used to prevent the load from falling out when the doors are opened. • Shoring/blocking bars are used to stabilise the load. • Non-slip surface material is used to prevent the load from shifting. • Appropriate load restraints are used to properly restrain the load. • Establishing a system of ensuring compliance with the above for every load consigned, i.e., by requiring photos and/or diagrams of each load. • Providing overseas suppliers with instructions regarding compliance with Australian safety regulations. • Establishing a system for advising transport companies of the load restraint used for each load consigned. • Ensure compliance with the requirements of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and Regulations. • Ensure compliance with internal Safety Management Systems, policies, and procedures. These reasonably practicable measures are just examples of potential controls that you can implement and should be read in conjunction with those outlined in the registered industry Master Code. So as a PCBU have you done this? https://lnkd.in/g8vwnZfN

🚪📑 FIRE SEALS - WHY IS THIRD PARTY CERTIFICATION SO IMPORTANT? It’s critical that fire safety products are proven to perform in the event of a fire – particularly fire doors, which fulfil a life-saving role. Product certification signifies a manufacturer’s commitment to go above minimum market requirements. It’s essential to use an independently approved intumescent fire seal, because the door assembly itself will invariably be independently approved, as will all the critical components used in its construction. The sealing system will need to have its performance verified on a complete suite of full-size fire door configurations; single leaf, double leaf, single acting, double acting, latched and unlatched. All of Lorient's products are backed by extensive test evidence - but in addition to this, we also submit our products for independent performance verification, wherever a suitable scheme exists. A new technical bulletin has been released in collaborative partnership between the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) and the Window & Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA). The organizations indicate that the purpose of the document, AAMA/WDMA TB-24-01, is to clarify the definition of a window opening control device (WOCD) to promote greater understanding of the role of WOCDs and provide an understanding of a WOCD’s function. https://lnkd.in/gxge9qia

Do you know what the correct size threshold gap should be between the bottom of a door leaf and the finished floor? Here’s what Richard Kowalski, our Technical Manager for doors, had to say… The threshold gap should be calculated and adjusted to suit the finish floor thickness and the required gap. The maximum gap for smoke certification is 3mm, or between 8-10mm for fire-only doors (refer to the doors’ fire certification for confirmation on the maximum gap for fire). Threshold gaps should be resolved and calculated before the doors are fitted to ensure the correct gap is present once the FFL is down. Do you have a question you want answered?
