👉 FOLLOW EnergyNews.biz 👈 💡 Renowned geoscientist Arnout Everts (PhD) in Earth Sciences and 30+ years in the oil and gas industry, discusses natural #hydrogen in an Energy News interview. 🌍 Hydrogen exploration faces challenges, requiring confirmation of "hydrogen fields" with trapped H2 for commercial production. ⚖️ Lower compressibility of hydrogen affects subsurface trap design and operation, potentially impacting recovery efficiency. 🌐 Ongoing technological developments aim to address challenges in exploiting subsurface hydrogen, increasing awareness of "white hydrogen" occurrences. 🔄 White hydrogen extraction's environmental impact compared to traditional methods varies, with considerations like CO2 emissions and efficiency. 🌍 White hydrogen's potential environmental benefits could contribute to broader climate targets, complementing other renewable energy sources. 📈 Arnout Everts emphasizes that commercial exploitation of white hydrogen on a large scale is still a long way off, with projects in early exploration stages. Special thanks to Paul Martin, for mentioning Dr. Everts' work in his post.

In a compelling testimony, industry expert Joe Dryer, President & CEO, Fairfield Geotechnologies, highlighted the critical role that geoscience plays in our understanding and management of natural resources. EnerGeo stands at the forefront of this field, exemplifying dedication to leveraging science for the betterment of decision-making processes. EnerGeo Alliance values collaboration and education, providing stakeholders - including regulators, policymakers, and the energy industry - with the most current and accurate geoscientific information. This allows for educated decision-making essential for responsible energy management and regulatory frameworks. Dryer's testimony shed light on the complex challenges faced in resource extraction and management. He underscored the necessity for data-driven strategies to optimize resource utilization, something that can't be done without adequate geoscience data. 🔗 Read our full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dtdiuPKe Also pictured is EnerGeo's Dustin Van Liew, Vice President, Global Policy & Government Affairs alongside Congressman Wesley Hunt, representing the 38th district of Texas. [#JustReleased] A scientific article dealing with social life cycle assessment (S-LCA) has just been published in the International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment. It is co-written by Jérémie Lehmann, Rhoda Fofack-Garcia, Thierry Ranchin & Paula Pérez-López. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eEUtQxrV It provides the methodological basis for S-LCA to target potential impacts and to support decision-making using participatory approaches. The developed method is applied to hierarchize social impact subcategories in the offshore wind energy sector, which raises a number of socio-economic questions. The hierarchization results allow the practitioner to target a priority order to address the impacts subcategories for next S-LCA steps and to specify the chosen scope of the study. This method is also transferable to any sector where stakeholders are assembled in sectoral clusters. This work was carried out as part of the #LIFOWI project. Establishing justice in the energy sector necessitates moving beyond theoretical discussions to practical implementation. It took policy makers a significant amount of time to realize that corporate social responsibility cannot be achieved without enforcing reporting mechanisms. Similarly, justice in the energy sector cannot be attained without applying the Energy Justice Milestone Reports. This is where Prof. Raphael Heffron, along with other experts, has written an insightful piece on the role of justice in shifting accountability and responsibility within the energy sector. The article is published in Nature Energy. Here is the link to the article: https://lnkd.in/gdnEuved

Always interesting to talk to different stakeholders about research, it was a pleasure to talk to TotalEnergies last week, and discuss energy justice, stakeholders and risk management! I also introduced them to a paper I recently wrote with co-authors (Aoife Foley and Dylan Furszyfer Del Rio) in the prestigious journal Nature Energy! #energyjustice #energyinfrastructure #climatechange University of Pau and Adour Countries, CNRS, Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine

🥂 Major victory for Geothermal Energy in the EU! MEPs have overwhelmingly approved (531 votes for, 2 against, and 20 abstentions) a report recognising the vast potential of geothermal energy. The report, involving #EuroGeoSurveys and #GSEU, sets the stage for a greener, more sustainable future. Key Points: ➡ Governments urged to invest in geothermal resource mapping and drilling. ➡EuroGeoSurveys’ European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI) takes centre stage, providing access to Pan-European and national geological datasets. EGDI is a central element in EGS’ ambitions to establish a GSEU - Geological Service for Europe #GSEU. 💡Explore EGDI: https://bit.ly/429MgWl 🔥 Geothermal energy emerges as a game-changer for decarbonising district heating systems. MEPs advocate for equal legislative standing and a robust EU strategy for geothermal energy. Witness a groundbreaking shift towards a sustainable energy future! #GeothermalEnergy #EU #RenewableFuture

What was your favorite paper from the Stanford University Geothermal Workshop last month? It’s exciting to hear how others are exploring new technologies and techniques in academic papers. Our favorite subject, microseismic monitoring, is the topic of two papers that were presented at the 2024 Stanford Geothermal Workshop. One titled “Microseismic Monitoring of a Horizontal EGS System: Case Study and State of the Art” lead by Fervo Energy with authors Sireesh Dadi, Jack Norbeck, Aleksei Titov, Travis Payeur, Sean Machovoe, Kaven Joern, & Kanu Chinaemerem; and one titled “Microseismicity Observation and Characterization at Cape Modern and Utah FORGE” lead by Berkeley Lab with authors Nori Nakata, Sin-Mei Wu, Chet Hopp, Michelle Robertson & Sireesh Dadi. Were these your favorite papers too? #geothermaleverywhere #microseismic #egs #geothermal #monitoring #characterizing #academicwriting
