As reported by this recent research, there are 3-4 times fewer geophysics graduates than needed in the UK. The situation is similar in many other regions around the world. The British Geophysical Association set out to explore the reasons behind this trend. Read more in the full paper and article linked below. #geosciencecareers #prioritizingpeople
Stark but important results from the work by Jennifer Jenkins, Amy Gilligan and Lidong Bie and the British Geophysical Association on the state of #geophysics #education in the #UK. We've got lots of work to do! Fewer Universities offering geophysics courses, fewer students on the remaining courses, 3-4 times fewer geophysics graduates than needed by industry each year (70-100 graduates vs. 245 jobs), low awareness of geophysics (esp. by Geography/Engineering students), but lots of appealing features of geophysics degrees. EnerGeo’s members are committed to workplace safety. Through education and training, our members make sure every member has the tools they need to operate safely. In 2023, members participated in 380,639.5 hours of proactive health, safety & environment training. To put that into perspective if all that training was for a single person, that would be 1,000 years of sitting in a classroom. EnerGeo members have access to information like this and more.
