The City of Chicago needs to get serious and avoid risking the future of O'Hare Airport which is absolutely critical for business travel in Illinois and globally. It's one of the few dual hub airports in the U.S.. Despite a 2018 agreement for a nearly $10 billion project, the City is already over budget by $1.5 billion and growing. Rather than paring back excesses, they would like to force airlines like United Airlines and American Airlines to absorb the added costs. These airlines employ more than 25,000 workers in the Chicagoland area. What does this mean for passengers? First of all, significantly higher costs for airline tickets. Secondly, it will likely result in reduced routes and planes are directed through Dallas, Denver, Charlotte and other connecting airports. Both of these mean fewer passengers coming through Chicago. Manufacturers need a strong transportation system anchored by a strong and vibrant global airport. Anything less is not acceptable.

Heathrow Express, I get it that sometimes things go wrong that are outside your control which means you can’t run a service from Heathrow to Paddington. You are providing a premium service (and ticket prices reflect that), so it would have been a good experience if you had informed your customers in the arrivals terminal rather than at the station and provided an alternative. Instead, the service you provided was anything but a good experience. #customerexperince #servicedelivery #customerservice

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has been named the best travel hub in Which?’s annual survey, which rates 24 leading UK international airport terminals. Meanwhile, its near-neighbour Manchester Airport – which, along with several other airports, has mounted a strong defence denouncing the survey’s veracity – saw its Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 come bottom of the list. Which? – the well-known UK ‘consumer champion’ publication – surveyed almost 4,000 people about their experiences at airports in the last 12 months and invited them to rate the airports across 11 categories. These included percentage of cancellations, queues (with separate ratings for check-in, bag drop, security and passport control), baggage reclaim, seating, staff, prices in shops, airport wifi and toilets. Full story and full survey table, with breakdown of ratings, via the link. #travelretail #airports John Irving Lucy O'Shaughnessy https://lnkd.in/exB2crYk

The Which? annual survey of the UK's worst airports sounds like a list you definitely want to swerve if you're running an airport. I'll leave you to click through to see if your own airport related mishaps mirror the league table. Airports are complex beasts to manage and with multiple stakeholders, huge levels of investment and 1000s of staff it can be hard to implement improvements. It's an area of expertise for us, since we established our Centre of Excellence for Airport Management, and we've helped several airports effect improvements in their operations, analytics and processes. #airportmanagement #operations #airports #processimprovement https://lnkd.in/e-VnDec4

Why is an airport important to a city? * Business travelers will make travel and event/meeting location decisions based on an airport's ease to navigate (transportation pun intended). * Conference planners weight this same thing when looking at a city for their event. * Major corporations look at this as well. Who wants a nice new corporate HQ or major manufacturing site with access through an airport everyone hates? * An airport is an advertisement for the city, or even your state or country! More so if it's in the capital. How many of us have our lone experience with a city/state/country being inside the airport? (I've been to Amsterdam, Prague, Frankfurt, and Shannon....but only in the airport.) * If it's awful for layovers, people WILL avoid it when given a choice. This article doesn't cover any of the cargo operations...which is understandable. Most people won't care. But I am interested to see how those will improve, and how that may impact Rickenbacker in the long run. Would better cargo operations through CMH lead to more or less business at LCK? Is there any correlation at all? I really hope this gets approved. Columbus needs a new airport (and light rail connecting it and downtown...but that's another topic) to match our flourishing city! #CSCCSCM #airports #airtransportation #transportation #aircargo #airfreight #travel #Columbus #Ohio #supplychain #logistics #mobility Columbus Regional Airport Authority

❗BREAKING NEWS ❗ Ireland West Airport has been ranked 6th best airport in Europe and the top-ranking airport in the UK and Ireland for passenger queue times in a recent study carried out by holiday home rental company, Casago, who compiled a best and worst list for airports in terms of their queueing times, using customer reviews from airlinequality.com. The study looked at passenger reviews to compile a list of the slowest and quickest queueing times at airports across the continent. To discover which airports are the best and worst for queueing times, Casago analysed passenger reviews from airlinequality.com, where each review gave queueing times a rating of between 1 and 5 stars. Individual airports and countries were separately ranked on having the highest percentage of reviews for airport queuing times with a 4 or 5 star rating. The final results ranked Ireland West Airport as the sixth-best airport in Europe, and the top-ranked airport amongst its peers both in Ireland and the UK, with 55% of passengers giving the airport a 4 or 5-star rating. The news comes as July proved to be another record-breaking month for passenger traffic at the airport with a record 91,261 passengers passing through the airport during the month, making it the busiest month of July in the airport's 38-year history. The passenger numbers represented a 5% increase on July 2022 passenger numbers and were almost 1% higher than the previous busiest July back in 2014. Congratulations to Heathrow airport on setting a new record for passengers served. 81.5m passengers passed through Heathrow in the 12 months to May this year, surpassing previous records. 7.2m people travelled internationally in May alone - surpassing the 7m mark for the first time. Passenger journeys to the US were up by 11% and journeys to Asia were up a whopping 36% - further evidence of people seeking out more exotic locations when they travel. With this growing trend in traffic, it’s more important than ever that airports make full use of technology for automation and to streamline operations. We’re proud to have partnered with Heathrow for more than 10 years by powering self-serve bag-drop and check-in across several terminals. During peak times our self-serve bag drop technology manages 1.5 bags every second at Heathrow.
