Stress, worry, sadness, anger and other emotions are all a normal part of life. When these feelings run high for extended periods, however, they can interfere with the ability to carry out everyday tasks – and can signal more serious health conditions. Findings from Year 3 of the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index show that women are experiencing these emotions more now than three years ago. And there are notable gender gaps – for example, women are 20% more likely than men to say they experience sadness daily. We must work together to improve women’s health and well-being globally. Closing gaps in health outcomes often involves collecting data that allows us to better understand why individuals are not receiving the diagnosis and, subsequently, the treatment they need. Here are five examples of how this data gap influences women's health: https://lnkd.in/g8rMX-Ws

The International Women's Day is coming up on March 8th, and I'd like to highlight this important import by the World Economic Forum, and the McKinsey Health Institute about gaps in women's health. "While improving women’s health has positive economic outcomes, it is foremost an issue of health equity and inclusivity. Addressing the women’s health gap could improve the quality of life for women, as well as create positive ripples in society, such as improving future generations’ health and boosting healthy aging." Why is women's health never a priority? . Despite living longer on average, women endure 25% more years in poor health or facing early demise. The ‘women’s health gap’ tallies 75 million lost years annually, according to a new report by World Economic Forum & McKinsey Health Institute. Closing it could benefit 3.9 billion women by giving them back 7 extra healthy days a year, or an average of 500 days over a lifetime. . 📌 As someone who has directly worked with thousands of women and girls to talk to them about their health, it's heartbreaking to witness that no one ever tells them to prioritise their health. 💡Women are asked to deal with their pain, discomfort. They are told that it's gonna be okay, that the it's womanly to ensure pain. 📍The same approach was taken by healthcare researchers. Therefore, disorders are PCOS and Endemetrios etc was never properly researched upon until very recently. 📐Govts and policymakers don't prioritise women's health enough because of the shame and taboo. We need a lot more last mile delivery of interventions THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. This #WorldHealthDay, let's invest in and prioritise advocacy and action on closing this health gap for women.

"We must evolve our understanding of women's health if we are going to close this gap." Ask any woman you know, in any country around the world, and I am sure they will be able to share stories that bring the data in this report to life. Stories on how they, their mothers and grandmothers, and their daughters and grandaughters have experienced healthcare, been unable to access the best care, have been ignored or treated with medication designed for the other half of humanity.
