The Hospitals of Singapore (HOS) Network, hosted by CHI, had a dynamic presence at the Singapore Healthcare Management (SHM) 2024 conference yesterday! Our second roundtable of the year was a bustling success, bringing together key hospital leaders to dive deep into the critical topics of Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain. A huge thank you to all our speakers and hospital leadership representatives for their valuable contributions and insights! Some of the key highlights: Kickstarting the session, Tay Teng Choon, Peter, Chief Executive Officer and Nina Zhang, Chief Procurement Officer from ALPS Pte. Ltd. shared invaluable insights to the national procurement strategy and ecosystem while highlighting some key sustainability initiatives. They emphasised on the importance of cross-cluster collaboration and the balance between cost and sustainability goals. Dr Tang Chien Her, Head of Healthcare Vertical, ST Logistics showcased STL's commitment to reducing the impact of their environmental footprint. He highlighted their various sustainability initiatives within STL and across the healthcare continuum. Dennis M Johnny, Director of Operations, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering, Singapore wrapped up the sharing session with a compelling look into the hotel's sustainability journey, from farm-to-table practices to investing in sustainable infrastructure and inspiring hotel guests towards more sustainable behaviours. The discussions, moderated by Jeannie Tey, Co-Lead, Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI)’s Sustainability Academy, were vibrant and delved deep into the sustainability landscape within healthcare and challenges faced, leaving our hospital leaders energised to continue to advance their sustainability goals, including driving sustainable procurement practices. Rounding up the session, Eugene Fidelis Soh, Host of the HOS Network and Executive Director of CHI, stimulated the discussions with a thought-provoking question: In sustainable procurement and solutions where costs are often higher, is it more of a value game or a volume game? Share your thoughts below! When looking at cost, should the emphasis be on demonstrating the value of sustainable solutions, or on driving demand up to benefit achieve cost efficiencies through scale? #CHI #HospitalsOfSingapore #sustainability #healthcare #healthcaremanagement #shmc2024

The Power of Relationship-Based Design in Transforming Healthcare Experiences by MillerKnoll Going beyond food, drink, and accommodation to deliver safe, comfortable, and inclusive spaces. Today’s healthcare organizations face mounting challenges attracting and retaining patients and staff. To stay competitive and enhance experiences, many providers are turning to hospitality models – but what does hospitality actually mean in a healthcare context? At its core, hospitality is about relationships – welcoming, caring for, and valuing people. As Albert Calet, Head of Healthcare MEA at MillerKnoll explained, “It’s far more than amenities and services.” Our decades of research reveal that implementing a hospitality mindset rooted in caring relationships has immense power to uplift healthcare experiences for both patients and staff. https://lnkd.in/d3AK3yn3 Health Magazine

Sustainability in healthcare systems isn't only the realm of the individual(s) charged with reducing GHG's. The mandate for climate adaptation and resilience impacts everything from food services to care demand & utilization to finances and health equity. It's not 'someone else's problem'. Great work here from SingHealth, National University Health System, Lancet Commission on Sustainable Healthcare and Centre for Sustainable Healthcare

💉 I was amazed at the turnout at the public plenary: Driving Net Zero Healthcare in Asia and Around the World organised by Centre for Sustainable Medicine with guests from Lancet Commission on Sustainable Healthcare - there were not one, but two overflow rooms for the event. (No… I wasn’t the latest one and I was not in the last room ☺️) Insights that resonate with me: 💊 Sustainability is not just about environmental sustainability but also manpower and financial sustainability. 💊 Sustainability is marathon, not a sprint - as much as we like to do things quickly, there needs to be time and effort on communication to staff. 💊 As always, it is important to secure commitment from senior management to drive change. 💊 The shift towards a capitation model has potential to lower the high costs of health care, and helps sustainability through increasing efficiency, potentially reducing the number of appointments required, and hence reducing patients’ carbon footprints from travelling. 💊 Fostering interdisciplinary knowledge is important for driving change through collaboration. 🌿 I was tickled and intrigued by questions submitted from the floor, such as whether hospitals would consider implementing a plant-based diet for all patients. As a naturally slim person who has been experimenting with that, and am struggling to fully go plant-based as one of my goals this year is to gain more lean mass for health reasons, this made me wonder about possibilities. I have been seeing some delicious-looking and high-protein hot food recipes (like tofu and chickpea “pasta”in tomato sauce) on Instagram recently, so I wonder if this is possible in an institution with resources…? At the same time, the delicious Singaporean food served at the event made me wonder if our local patients would feel happy with only plant-based meals when ill in bed… 🌱 The developments at National University Health System and SingHealth sound exciting - I’m looking forward to seeing developments at National Healthcare Group as well! #esg #sustainability #collaborationforchange

3wAppreciate the invite to share. To achieve system sustainability goals, truly requires all stakeholders to work together and lead change in their respective areas. Learned much from the exchange. We have to keep at it as time is running out.
