Join us on April 29 for a discussion about the critical issue of gun violence in America. Our esteemed panel, featuring former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D., Deputy Director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention Gregory Jackson Jr., and Yale School of Public Health Dean Megan Ranney, will delve into a public health approach aimed at mitigating the health impacts of firearm injury. In a nation grappling with the repercussions of gun violence, this discussion couldn't be more timely. Regardless of where you stand politically or geographically, this is an issue that affects us all. Yet, progress has been alarmingly slow in addressing what has become an epidemic. But we can catalyze change and forge a path forward through the tools of public health. RSVP today to participate in this crucial conversation: https://lnkd.in/daP4EXJY

Vice President, Clinical Excellence @ Colorado Hospital Association. Passionate About Interprofessional Care Delivery Rooted in Excellence, Efficiency, and Effectiveness.
Yesterday, Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy declared firearm violence a public health emergency. In 2022, almost 50,000 people died related to firearm violence. We must do better. The public narrative on this issue often immediately goes toward mass shootings. Such events are tragic and traumatizing, and we must recognize that firearm violence is a complex issue. I'm reminded of a recent report from Colorado showing the majority of firearm violence is attributed to suicide. We need a comprehensive and holistic solution to firearm violence prevention that speaks to all of the root causes, and we need it fast. How about a “be happy we have financially destroyed the profession of Physical Therapy month????” In 2024, Doctors of Physical Therapy make less money than we did 30 years ago with half the education, adjusted only per inflation. The current financial outlook for Doctors of Physical Therapy is abysmal, at best. Unless you enjoy crippling debt & working for free. If you like indentured servitude, just become a DPT. In 1990, with a bachelor’s degree, PT’s made 55K a year average. If PT’s still practiced with a bachelor’s, if school was still 20K, and if all we did was increase salaries yearly based on annual inflation, the base minimum PT salary today should be 130K. If we still practiced w just a bachelors. Don’t let the APTA destroy your life. Start a cash pay business. We will help you accomplish your goals… unless your goal is indentured servitude… Nutrition courses: https://lnkd.in/gxp9xAkt Homepage: https://lnkd.in/gVqZHkt8

Recovery Legal Care helps patients harmed by violence access benefits and social services. Early signs show that it's helping to prevent readmissions. The partnership, known as Recovery Legal Care, began in late 2022 and provides patients with legal assistance for social and economic needs, like acquiring public benefits. The goal is to break down the barriers families face after a violent injury and provide them with access to benefits and resources that can help their long-term health outcomes. Navigating the bureaucratic process and paperwork to obtain those resources is complicated, and sometimes legal assistance is needed to access them and appeal any denials. https://thetr.ac/AFAft
A hospital initiative in Chicago is working to improve gun violence survivors’ long-term health in a unique way: by providing patients with free legal services. The idea is that by helping patients and their families with needs outside the ER, such as dealing with the bureaucracy and paperwork required to access benefits, their long-term health will improve. Early signs indicate that the program is succeeding. The Trace’s Rita Oceguera explains how it works:
