Did you know we have U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) representation across all 6 Boards in the Eastern Region, including Baltimore, Boston, Newark, New York City, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia? HUDs presence on our Boards plays a crucial role in fostering federal partnerships, which was highlighted during last month’s FEB Eastern Region “Fostering Friday” session featuring RA Juana B. Matias During these presentations, we invite federal leaders to share their agency’s mission and objectives with our team, helping us to identify key issues and build awareness for more effective collaboration. The FEBs consistently strive to create opportunities to discover how we can most successfully support the federal agencies we partner with. Thank you again, RA Juana Matias, for discussing HUD’s essential work with us. As RA Matias emphasized during her presentation, “we really cannot do this work alone… these kinds of partnerships are essential to us reaching our customers and getting communities connected with our resources.” We look forward to working with HUD on future initiatives and applying our enhanced understanding of their mission and objectives to help them achieve their goals. Previous Fostering Fridays have featured conversations with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Region 2 - New York, HHS's FDA - Office of Regulatory Affairs, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Protective Service Region 3 - Mid-Atlantic Southern District #FEBSouth #FEBEast #FEBWest #FEBCentral #FEB #FederalGovernment

One of our #2023highlights was our $2.3M grant to ICL in support of their work to expand care options for those experiencing behavioral health challenges and housing insecurity. “For New Yorkers who have some of the most complex health and social needs, a range of personalized care options is needed to achieve long-term stability,” said Tracy Perrizo, New York City Program Officer.

August is National Civic Health Month. The National Civic League has created a civic health index that includes seven components of community-based civic capital: engaged residents, inclusive community leadership, collaborative institutions, embracing diversity and equity, authentic communication, a culture of engagement, and shared vision and values. Here in Arkansas, it is in our best interests, and in the best interests of our children and grandchildren, that we elect leaders who make it their mission to create and sustain civic health infrastructure that empowers the citizens of Arkansas to build livable communities where we all can thrive together. Read the 2023 Arkansas Civic Health Index, that I co-authored, to find out what our elected officials should be thinking about to improve our state's civic health: https://lnkd.in/gqaPARWU

One of the common questions I've heard over the years about Global Medical Brigades is when we will begin our work in a new country. It doesn't happen often. Where and when to expand are comprehensive decisions that take into consideration a multitude of factors. We ask ourselves and prospective community partners questions like: - Is our collaboration scalable beyond medical relief? Will it be possible to tap into and sustain local leadership to promote access to healthcare, public health and water infrastructure, and economic development? - What are the current and potential socioeconomic strengths and challenges at local, national, and regional levels? - What needs are prioritized and requested by prospective partner communities? What resources do we have to offer? Do these align? With our impactful history of sustainable development in Central America, strong local leadership, and high stakeholder interest, communities Belize became an undeniable fit for our program. It's exciting to hear feedback live from volunteers Aaliyah and Maggie from Montclair State University!

This week, we are featuring one of COAST's founding members and a COAST Board Member at-Large, Arnold Woodruff, MS, LMFT. We asked Mr. Woodruff about what made him join COAST, his vision of COAST's larger mission, and what he hopes other MFTs will find by joining COAST. If his thoughts resonate with you, join COAST: https://lnkd.in/gBzCyeWc 1. What made you become a founding member of COAST? [Mr. Woodruff] I got involved with COAST after the by-laws change as I was (and am) concerned about state-level information and advocacy for our profession when the existing state organizations were unsupported or taxed out of existence. 2. Describe COAST's mission in a way that feels meaningful to you. [Mr. Woodruff] The mission of COAST is to ensure a place for emerging and existing systemic therapists to go for networking, information, advocacy, and support with state and local-level knowledge and insight. 3. What would you like future COAST members to find in COAST? [Mr. Woodruff] I would like members to find a welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable home to support folks in their work as systemic therapy professionals. 4. What's one good reason more MFTs should consider joining COAST? [Mr. Woodruff] COAST remains focused on the day-to-day needs of systemic therapy professionals and students as we, as a distinct minority in numbers and theory, advance the value and visibility of our profession. #mft #systemictherapy #systemictherapists

Local governments in California are making an effort to improve engagement with community, but there are still many challenges to this. That's why at the foundation, we support work that aligns systems with community priorities. In this month's newsletter, we highlight some of the innovative work happening to center community voices. Here's what you'll find inside this month's Intersections: ➡️Our grantee partners San Joaquin Valley Health Fund, The Center at Sierra Health Foundation, and Public Health Institute are creating accessible spaces for people with lived expertise to have a seat at the table. ➡️A multi-sector collaboration, Safety & Healing in Networks of Equity (SHINE), is creating safer, more supportive communities that can drive systemic change in domestic violence prevention and response. ➡️Our partners Onside Partners and ThinkForward Strategies conducted research on how public health agencies are actively using an equiy-centered approach.
