We all know that true progress in agriculture means breaking down barriers and creating equal chances for everyone. This initiative is a huge leap towards that goal, and it’s exciting to see the FAO leading the charge for a more inclusive and effective agrifood sector. #GenderEquality #Agriculture #FAO

Did you know that there are an estimated 500 million smallholder farmers across the world, of which a suggested 60-80% are women. Despite this overwhelming majority, women smallholders remain largely unsupported and their contribution to agriculture is often devalued because of their sex. Today we highlight their contribution and celebrate their successes! #InternationalDayofRuralWomen
Today is the International Day of Rural Women! Today (and every other day), we celebrate the fantastic work and dedication of millions of women around the world working tirelessly to enhance rural development and agriculture. We're working with Professor Carolyn E. Sachs of Penn State University and Dr Paige Castellanos (Davis) of Oxfam America to develop a book which showcases the integral work rural women do and how key stakeholders across the agri-food supply chain can better support them. 🌍💪 In support of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, let’s spotlight the role of women in agriculture and the challenges they face. Gender-based violence (GBV) harms individuals and limits opportunities for women to fully participate in agricultural activities, hindering economic growth and food security. Empowering women with safe, equitable environments in agriculture strengthens communities, enhances productivity, and fosters resilience. Together, we can break barriers and build an inclusive sector where everyone thrives. #EndGBV #WomenInAg #Women #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #Equal #Farmers #SmallholderFarmers #Rural International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) AGRA World Agroforestry ISRIC - World Soil Information International Water Management Institute (IWMI) The World Bank SNV Wageningen University & Research

Access to finance and resources remains a significant barrier for rural women globally. This disparity highlights the urgent need for comprehensive support to empower women and women entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector. With support from Sweden, UN Women and the FAO, rural women in Bosnia and Herzegovina are gaining economic empowerment through gender-sensitive credit solutions and climate-resilient agriculture. These initiatives are providing women with greater financial access and resilience, which is essential for fostering #GenderEquality and sustainable development. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/daHiFUsH

The National Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy is set to transform the agricultural landscape by creating pathways for women to enter high-value crop and livestock value chains. It will enhance access to agricultural financing, information, and markets while promoting agricultural adaptation and climate-smart solutions. These empowering interventions are crucial for bridging the gender gap in agriculture. Let's champion land rights and work together to empower women in agriculture for a more equitable and sustainable future. #WEEPolicy #WEEPolicyDomestication #WeeliftKano #WeeliftKaduna #WeeliftLagos

My presentation ISTE in June this year was based on Catalyzing Agriculture as a cool career by the use of robotics.I have been working on the "Agribot Challenge" something that I have been working on for almost 2 years - The AgriBot Challenge is particularly attractive because: -Robotics in agriculture though still a novel concept in Africa is widely practiced in the developing world and because of the technological slant makes farming a highly professionalized occupation unlike in Africa. Showcasing that perspective is likely to elicit excitement and high interest from students. -The Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) is concerned about the low interest among youth for careers in agriculture and is therefore actively seeking interventions that can counter that negative perception. -Young women are particularly eager to escape from farming because it is perceived to be a sector that relies heavily on female labour without attendant financial and social benefits to women in Africa. An agribot challenge serves three purposes of creating awareness about technological applications for agriculture; opening up entirely new ways of looking at agricultural entrepreneurship among the youth; offering coding that has practical and relevant purposes in Africa.. .I'd love to hear insights or any advice from anyone on this.
How Do We Keep Women and Youth Engaged in Agriculture? “Empowering women and youth is critical to the future of agriculture. In a recent webinar hosted by AATI in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture Tanzania, Mastercard Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Hussein Bashe we discussed innovative approaches to retain and support women and youth in agriculture." Watch this video snippet to see how we’re driving sustainable transformation in the sector. M.
