Every $1 spent on adaptation could lead to $12 in economic benefits, and lead to invaluable protection for people and communities around the world. Disaster responses—like those for the recent flooding in Brazil—must also be accompanied by larger efforts to prevent and prepare for future disasters. Our Deputy Director Nidhi Upadhyaya reminds us that the recent floods are a sobering example of the need to scale resilience solutions and mobilize investments in climate adaptation. We partnered with the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center to consider how resilience and adaptation could better protect frontline communities from climate disasters. In the face of escalating climate changes, which significantly heightens the threat of disasters affecting households and communities globally, devising effective solutions to address the challenges posed by events such as floods, heatwaves, and droughts should be of great importance to policymakers. Having recently finished this free course on Nature-based Solutions for Disaster and Climate Resilience provided by the SDG Academy, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comprehensive introduction to this crucial topic. 'Nature-based solutions' (NbS), amongst other measures, may play a vital role in fortifying the resilience of households and communities against the growing frequency of global disaster events. #NatureforResilience The Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR)
