Did you know that patients can receive minimally invasive, advanced robotic surgery from the da Vinci® Surgical System, when appropriate for the procedure? Robotic surgery involves a small incision and allows the surgeon to maneuver into confined spaces within the body with 3D magnification while providing a greater range of motion and precision with specialized instruments.
As you plan for 2024, talk to your surgeon to see if robotic surgery is right for you!
Really pleased & proud to have published the VOLCANO trial in Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, showing that open console robotic surgery reduces surgeon ergonomic risk during major colorectal resection. This is the first randomised controlled trial of open console robotic ergonomics (using CMR Surgical's #Versius system) and the first RCT from our research group at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Hopefully first of many more to come...

First in Israel: Robotic Pancreas Removal Surgery Performed at Galilee Medical Center!
At the Galilee Medical Center, for the first time in Israel, a pancreas was completely removed using the advanced da Vinci surgical robot. The complex surgery, which lasted about seven hours, was performed without the need to open the abdomen, a significant advancement in surgical methods.
Dr. Eli Kakiashvili, head of the General Surgery Department A, who led the surgery, commented, "The robotic approach enhances the surgeon's precision and capabilities, allowing us to perform complex surgeries with minimal invasiveness."

Rob Morgan enjoyed the insightful panel discussion at the Future of Surgical Robotics webinar, covering topics such as Artificial Intelligence, telepresence, haptics, open platforms, autonomous robotics, and Augmented Reality. It is so important for engineers to hear directly from surgeons and to collaborate with surgeons, so the right solutions can be developed for patients in partnership.
Key takeaways were the:
- Drive towards ‘precision surgery’ as a goal beyond ‘minimally invasive surgery’: targeted, specific and tissue preserving surgery
- Complexity of training provision as the diversity of robotic systems from different manufacturers increases and hence the value of standardisation
- Continued interest in having haptics in robotic systems comparable to open surgery
- Importance of maintaining proficiency in open surgical techniques for when a case needs to be converted from robotic to open
- Interest in greater robotic functionality that makes surgery safer: robotic systems that automatically brake or alarm to avoid damage to critical tissue structures
- Growing consensus of the benefit of open surgeon consoles in allowing better communication with the OR team
At Sagentia Innovation, we work in all of these areas of surgical robotics. If you have any technology or product innovation challenges, please email info@sagentiainnovation.com to arrange a meeting with the Surgical team.

This is a remarkable step forward in surgical technology! Vicarious Surgical’s innovation shows how far we’ve come in making surgeries less invasive and more precise. The fact that such complex procedures can be done through a tiny 1.8 cm incision is mind blowing. It’s exciting to think about the impact this will have on patient care, reducing recovery times and making surgeries less traumatic. I believe advancements like these are the future of healthcare bridging technology and medicine to create safer, more efficient treatments.

Vicarious Surgical Inc. has introduced an innovative robot aimed at transforming minimally invasive surgery. The robot requires only a tiny 1.8-centimeter incision, providing surgeons with unmatched precision and control. Featuring nine degrees of freedom per arm and a 360-degree view of the anatomy from any entry point, it makes complex procedures easier and shortens recovery times. This advancement heralds a future where surgeries are not only more efficient but also less traumatic for patients.
How do you stay ahead of the game-you focus on your core mission, better access to the best results from minimally invasive surgery & you innovate in conjunction with the clinicians.
The result…the next generation of da Vinci Surgery
