I never thought that trying to explain what my role is in 1 minute can be so challenging. But I somehow managed! I really love my L&D role, as it's so diverse and I get to work with so many Owlstone employees, from experienced managers, to colleagues who are in the early stages of their career. Many thanks to UK-based Evertreen for planting trees in lieu of gifts this holiday season for a number of Procido LLP's clients from around the world. The Procido LLP trees have been planted in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, Canada. Over the last several years, British Columbia has been ravaged by wildfires, which spread across more than 1.3 million hectares of land. The intensity of the fires have killed off the forests and damaged the soil, leaving a scarred and barren landscape. The local wildlife’s habitat and food sources have been severely impacted, and the many Indigenous communities have lost portions of their traditional hunting grounds and food sources, threatening their way of life. To address this issue, Evertreen is contributing to a reforestation project aimed at restoring this area by planting Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, Ponderosa pine, hybrid spruce, and western larch, with the goal of assisting natural regeneration and allowing the damaged ecosystems to flourish once again. Each tree planted in this region helps to absorb 0.9 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. An experiment was conducted to see if greyhounds could compete with the speed of a cheetah. When the cages opened, people were shocked to see that the cheetah wasn't moving. They asked the race coordinator what had happened and why the cheetah hadn't moved. His answer: "Sometimes trying to prove that you're the best is an insult to your self-esteem. You don't have to stoop to the level of others to make them understand your skills, qualities, and contributions. It's best to save your energy for more worthwhile projects. A cheetah uses its speed to hunt, not to prove to dogs that it is faster and stronger. Don't waste your time and energy proving your worth to people who simply don't have the skills to appreciate your worth.
