Empowerment and Equality: Recognising Women in Logistics on #internationalwomensday2024 Women in logistics play a crucial role in shaping and advancing the global supply chain landscape. As the logistics industry continues to evolve, women have become increasingly prominent in various roles, from truck and bus drivers, transport managers and warehousing to supply chain management and strategic planning. By breaking barriers and excelling in what was a traditionally male-dominated field, women in logistics inspire future generations and demonstrate that gender should never be a limiting factor in pursuing careers in this dynamic and essential sector. #WomenInLogistics

Happy #iwd2024 ! (8th of March).... Here is why I love this day 👇 As we talk about diversity & inclusivity.... My mission is to inspire, foster & mentor #femaletalent. As a woman who started a business at the age of 23 in a new country, in ultra-competitive industry, all on my own, without any experience, VC, partner backing, no mentorship, or tips, I had to learn & figure out how to succeed & then navigate a rapidly changing & always crowded marketplace to keep giving people jobs. I’ve always wanted to create a family-like diverse workplace that people will thrive in and I believe I achieved this well. Over 15 years of small business #leadership, I've grown, fostered & given a head start to many talented juniors who then achieved a lot on their own, just a few examples: - 3 ladies who started from a junior role under my leadership, (one of which was an apprentice) have then started their own business and succeeded in it, up & running to the present day - 2 ladies have achieved mid-level executive roles in the corporate world after working with me, including one apprentice who got a job at KPMG - 1 of my previous employees who started at LingvoHouse Translation and Localisation and now has achieved a CMO position within a global brand combining this with raising 3 kids. - one of the current team members started as junior office assistant & grown to head of sales team. I combine running LingvoHouse all on my own over the years, with some non-profit jobs and parenting. I am a proud single mom of two very ambitious kids aged 9 and 7. They've launched their start-up by now... 🙃 At such at Lingvo I foster the values to create a flexible hours workplace that is suitable for parents with small kids & solo moms, half of Lingvo’s current team has school-age kids and benefits of flexibility around school runs & kids commitments. Some of my team members have been with me for over 10 years, some of our linguists are solo mums who have had two or more kids while working for us over the years and it’s super rewarding to see that I can create jobs that allow people to do it. Women empowerment refers to the process of enabling women to have control over their lives, make their own decisions, and assert their rights in society. It involves providing women with access to resources, opportunities, and the support they need to thrive economically, socially, and politically. This can include initiatives such as education and skill development, equal employment opportunities, legal rights advocacy, and challenging gender stereotypes and discrimination. Ultimately, women empowerment aims to create a more equitable and inclusive society where women can fully participate and contribute to all aspects of life. Women empowerment within a logistics company involves creating an inclusive and supportive environment where women have equal opportunities for career advancement, leadership roles, and professional development. A logistics company can create an environment where women feel empowered to excel, contribute their talents, and achieve their full potential within the organization. This not only benefits individual employees but also contributes to the company's overall success and competitiveness in the marketplace. It's fantastic to hear about a high percentage of women in our company Having 70% representation of women in logistics is a significant achievement and demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion within the sector. With such a strong presence of women, it's likely that the company benefits from diverse perspectives, innovative problem-solving approaches, and a more inclusive work culture. This can ultimately contribute to improved performance, productivity, and competitiveness in the industry. It's been a while since I gave my 2 cents. As a female leader in predominantly male led industries, I am often asked how I conquer the challenges that comes along with it. My answer is simple. It starts with fostering a culture that promotes inclusivity and diversity irrespective of our sex, race, creed, or religion. Yes, I bundle all of these together. As discrimination comes in all shapes and forms. Furthermore, I ascribe to a no tolerance philosophy when it comes to any sort of discrimination. I do not acknowledge or bring emphasis to the proverbial "glass ceiling" or the issues that come along with it. I merely follow through to the best of my ability and generally successful outcomes often solve the problem. In other words, ladies, let's aspire to a work ethic where our work, our output and our achievements becomes our voice in this regard. 📖 Did you know about the great 2022 report of United Nations Women (UN Women) called "Procurement’s strategic value: Why gender-responsive procurement makes business sense"? Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dgqi-9Ej As per the introduction: The #report presents the business case for #genderresponsive #procurement, defined as the #sustainable selection of services, goods or public works from women-owned or women-led enterprises and/or those having gender-responsive policies and practices for employees and supply chains. While gender-responsive procurement is a growing practice, it is far from universal. Globally, one in three businesses are owned by women, but women only win an estimated one per cent of the procurement spend of large corporations. In recognition of this missed opportunity, UN Women engaged over 350 stakeholders through interviews, a survey and a community of practice to bolster the conversation around gender-responsive procurement. UN Women found that companies are broadening their ambitions around gender equality and women’s empowerment while achieving significant business objectives through gender-responsive procurement. The report gathers lessons learned and success stories and makes an evidence-based case for companies to rethink their procurement practices.
