The new space race is heating up. Is the US ready? Our latest whitepaper explores the escalating threats, rapid pace of commercial innovation, and actionable steps the DoD can take to maintain our advantage in this critical domain. #SpaceSecurity #NationalDefense #CommercialSpace #DoD #Innovation #SpaceRace #FuturesandForesight #Strategy https://lnkd.in/dt6QpDBH
Space is a challenge for planners across DoD. The US, once the undisputed leader in space, now faces intense competition and escalating threats daily. DoD's strategic planning is complicated by fast-moving commercial innovation and unpredictable adversary behavior. Our latest whitepaper, authored by Tim Chrisman, Jay Nester and John Walsh describes the challenge and identifies promising first steps for DoD to manage risk, seize opportunity, and secure peace on the final frontier. #SpaceSecurity #NationalDefense #CommercialSpace #DoD #Innovation #SpaceRace #FuturesandForesight https://lnkd.in/dt6QpDBH

U.S. Space Command has a new strategy: Integrating more commercial systems into their operations. This comes at a time when the national security space community is beginning to work more with the private sector. And although it’s not a new idea, it is certainly a more focused and strategic effort to successfully engage and leverage new commercially developed technology from a broader base of space sector participants. "The strategies are part of a larger Defense Department push to better engage with private sector space companies, encouraging the acquisition workforce to look for off-the-shelf systems when possible and developing concepts for how it will leverage commercial technology in future conflicts," writes Courtney Albon. This is a positive step and one that will need nurturing at all echelons, as it will require a cultural adjustment. Yet when public and private sectors work together, we can innovate and achieve our goals more quickly…and from what we’ve been told, time is of the essence. #thefutureisnow #newspace #SpaceTech #NationalSecurity #USSF

While I understand the pain and uncertainty that such a change in direction can have for Industry, Defence needs to be able to respond to changing circumstances. To me the biggest issue that amplifies the pain for all parties is that the acquisition process is too slow. Eight years from tender announcement in an evolving domain almost guarantees any early answer is obsolete before you begin. I think it is positive that Defence has recognised the risks and opportunities of the current state of the Space domain and is responding accordingly. I do wonder if they have ensured that the solutions that they have put in place for projects like JP9360 also take this changing state fully into account…

The special operations commands for the U.S. and Norway have selected Reticulate Micro to participate in Arctic Warrior Experiment (#AWE) TE25-1, which takes place Jan. 13-17 in Norway. #TE25-1 will highlight technologies with the potential to support US/Norwegian and Allied special operations in Arctic environments. Reticulate will illustrate our Video Assured Secure Transmission (VAST™) video encoder platform, streaming live video over a narrowband L-band satellite link. AWE serves as the Norwegian Special Operations Command’s (NORSOCOM) arena to test cold-weather gear in rugged terrain and arctic conditions. The event is coordinated with NORSOCOM and the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Reticulate Micro is proud to be part of this strategic exercise to bolster NATO’s Arctic capabilities and the readiness of our coalition forces at a time of growing geopolitical competition in the Arctic. Streaming Where it Wasn’t Possible Before Demonstrating our real-time video streaming at the AWE provides an ideal opportunity for Reticulate to showcase the future of real-time tactical video streaming in realistic operational scenarios. VAST ensures that the best video and images from edge sensors and high-definition image capture technologies are available to edge operators in the most challenging communications environments. Delivering Resilient Comms & Situational Awareness When It Matters Reticulate’s platform gives forward-moving troops real-time positioning and surveillance insights, so they can stay ahead of peer-to-peer adversaries who continue to enhance their reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities. VAST encodes and compresses imagery and video so forces can monitor and assess the battlefield moment to moment. Why Reticulate is the Mission Partner of Choice for Tactical Intelligence at the Edge > Stream video on any network, anywhere, from the latest MANET to HF, at bitrates down to below 10 kilobits per second > Novel AV1 video-streaming technology solves the challenges of real-time video from the network’s edge > Run x86 or ARM hardware architecture, even a Raspberry Pi 5 > No server required – operates without the need for a video management system or server to stream video > Utilize open-source compression standard, so even highly compressed video is clear with no visual artifacts like tearing or distortions (no more relying on image transfers) > Suitable for transmission over SATCOM & low-bandwidth networks, even TACSAT Learn more: 🔗 Request a demo: sales@reticulate.io 🔗 Download the VAST data sheet: https://lnkd.in/edn9f27a 🔗 Join our mailing list: https://lnkd.in/eEtfi5MP 🌐 www.reticulate.io #Norway #NATO #coldweathertraining #articwarfare #GOVSATCOM #Video #C4ISR #Compression #Defense #MilitaryGear

With new technologies comes new ways that bad actors can get a hold of your software. It doesn’t get more cutting edge than military space technology, so that means the security practices in place need to be top notch and updated just as frequently. #thefederaldrivewithtomtemin #militaryspacetechnology
