🚰 Navigating End-User Perceptions: Development and Initial Psychometric Properties of a Water Quality Perception Scale (Puerto Rico Study) Excited to share our latest publication, "Navigating End-User Perceptions: Development and Initial Psychometric Properties of a Water Quality Perception Scale," co-authored by: Toby N. T. Nelson, Cristina Poleacovschi, Carl F. Weems, Kaoru Ikuma, and Chris R. Rehmann. Our research, conducted across various departments at Iowa State University and Texas A&M University, delves into the critical need for consistent and accurate measurement of public perceptions of water quality. Understanding these perceptions is crucial for influencing water use behaviors, developing effective policies, and engaging communities towards sustainable water management. 🔍 Key Highlights: Developed and refined the Water Quality Perception Scale (WQPS). Conducted an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with 18 items, identifying a primary factor, ‘Individual Water Quality Perception,’ consisting of 13 items. Performed a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with 147 participants, affirming the 13-item scale’s loadings. Demonstrated internal consistency with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of 0.93 and 0.90. Showed convergent validity with the Household Water Insecurity Experiences Scale (HWISE). This scale promises to be a robust tool for researching public perceptions of water quality and can significantly guide policy and public initiatives to enhance water management strategies. We are excited about the potential avenues for further development and application of this scale. Read more about our findings and implications for future research and practice in our full publication. Let's continue to work together towards a sustainable water future! https://lnkd.in/gcEc9kd8 #WaterQuality #Research #SustainableWaterManagement #Psychometrics #PublicPerception #PolicyDevelopment #CommunityEngagement #IowaStateUniversity #TAMU

Great to see this paper on the fit(ness) of water governance institutions published now! My favorite 'ingredient' is the prominence of anticipatory and transformative capacity. From direct observation I can say that this is also working in practice - how about more case examples, how would you explore the fitness of water governance institutions?
Associate Professor and Deputy Science Director at Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University
Do precipitation-sheds align with participation-sheds in decision-making?New paper dropped! Two decades after the world’s water crisis was recognized as a crisis of governance, where are we at? And how well are governance bodies able to grapple with the ways that (some) humans are changing water systems in globally significant ways? In this review, we cover a lot of ground, documenting what global level changes are being documented in water science, and the implications for those as communities around the world work to ensure governance re-centres local and Indigenous autonomy, includes those who are currently marginalized in decision-making, and ensures access to water for the varied needs that humans and non-humans have. 💡 New Resource Alert. Benchmarking is a tool for large water and wastewater utilities to compare performance across service providers, capture historical trends, and identify best practices. It’s now being adopted for fecal sludge management (FSM) by cities and regulators. USAID URBAN WASH’s new study examines good practices for FSM benchmarking, emphasizing the importance of including only a limited set of consistent indicators and the need for adequate underlying data systems. The research finds that effective FSM benchmarking can improve transparency, foster competition, strengthen advocacy, and inform decision-making. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gsjXjhMH

As I am a stakeholders analyst this workshop give me a knowledge of how to engage stakeholders in a different areas.
New stakeholder engagement blog on the #REACH website 🗩 In June, the International Water Management Institute held a two-day workshop to bring together stakeholders from Ethiopian research organisations, private companies, NGOs and city authorities🤝🏽 Participants considered existing stakeholder engagement modalities within the Ethiopian water sector, reflecting on effectiveness, inclusivity, and responsiveness. By identifying challenges, the group developed actionable recommendations for improvement which can help deliver a more water secure future. Today I was in the Le Comité européen des régions in the committee ENVE for the exchange of views about the opinon " Towards a resilient #water management to fight #climatecrisis within an Eubluedeal." in my role of expert to André Viola. The discussion stressed: ➡️a large consensus towards a water strategy with a holistic approach from the audience as well as from the rapporteurs ENVE, NAT and the European Economic and Social Committee ➡️Moreover, governance, digital tools, circular processes, #waterreuse and resource recovery were highlighted as key elements. ➡️Valuing water requires data and transparency as well as better awareness, discussion around costs, and multistakeholders participation. ➡️Local and regional authorities plays a key role in its transformation by being a key enabler for negotiation, implementation and adaption. Next step the 21st February for the stakeholder consultation.
