On a recent trip to London, I noticed something innovative and unexpected: street lights doubling as EV charging stations. This was a new concept to me, and after some digging, I found out that London now has over 8,000 street light charging points, with Berlin close behind with 800. This clever use of infrastructure makes electric mobility far more accessible and shows how cities are finding subtle ways to support EV adoption. Integrating EV charging into our existing urban landscape is an essential part of making electrification feasible at scale. City of London Corporation and Berlin City are excellent examples, but this approach is gaining momentum globally. Other cities are placing chargers in parking metres, bus stops, and even installing curbside wireless charging pads. Retail and office buildings are also getting in on the action, adding charging stations into garages and alongside commercial centres, making it easier for drivers to charge as they go about their day. As EVs become more mainstream, thoughtful urban planning incorporating seamless, easy-to-access charging solutions will be a game-changer. This isn’t just about convenience; it’s a practical step towards building the clean cities of the future. What other clever ways can you think of to integrate EV charging into our cityscapes that are mindful of the urban landscape? 👉 Jesse Morris, MBA-DM 🔔 Follow Jesse Morris, MBA-DM for interesting posts on: #BatteryTech, #Sustainability and #GreenTechnology Image credit (I forgot to take a picture myself): David Remondeulaz
