🚨 Community Safety Update 🚨 In light of recent violence at block parties, Detroit is taking action to keep our neighborhoods safe. Mayor Mike Duggan and Chief James White are rolling out a multi-layered strategy: 1️⃣ Neighborhood Response Team: Starting this weekend, DPD will deploy a dedicated team in each precinct to monitor and address illegal block parties, supported by 80 officers for swift action. 2️⃣ Priority 1 Response: All 911 calls about illegal block parties will be treated as top priority. If you see unpermitted gatherings or illegal activities, call 911 immediately. 3️⃣ Prosecution of Hosts: The city will prosecute homeowners and hosts of illegal block parties. Violations can lead to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine. Hosts will receive a warning before enforcement actions are taken. 4️⃣ Permit Process Engagement: Making sure residents are well informed on the process to host a legal block party and obtain a permit from the City of Detroit. Gather signatures from 75% of your neighbors, and ensure your event ends by 10 PM. Stay informed and help us maintain a safe community! 3moI commend the effort, and appreciate the tough job they have chosen to do. When reading this, I hope the 2nd sentence in #2 comes with training on how to know FOR SURE if it's legal or not, and how to proceed if/when someone calls in a false report of an illegal block party. People be people-ing!
