#EngagedLibraries spread happiness. 👗👔 Lasting memories are made for teens at events like prom. But for some, not having anything to wear stops them from attending. Sacramento Public Library in California breaks those barriers by inviting donations of gently used suits, dresses, and formal accessories to its annual Prom Drive. During giveaway events each spring, teens browse the free collection and take home the perfect outfit. Instead of collecting dust in someone’s closet, donations have the potential to bring light to others. 📲 We want to know how your library connects for a cause. When addressing disparities in access it is important to hear from the people we are NOT serving. Sometimes this can feel too challenging, especially if you don't have relationships with organizations working with other populations disproportionately impacted by the issue you are addressing. However, we have found that a simple ask, and a willingness to share the insights you uncover, can open a lot of doors to those engagements. In our work with the City of Alexandria, Virginia, on a Food Security Landscape Report, we were able to: * Work with multiple city departments to implement surveys * Engage community organizations rooted in new immigrant communities for focus groups * And even use local newsletters and social media pages to share the request for community members to take our neighbor engagement survey. This all led to valuable insights about populations that might be food insecure and not accessing the traditional charitable food network. Join Building Impact in fighting against summer hunger for families in need by contributing to their Summer Food Drive. In Massachusetts, 36% of surveyed households with children reported that their child is food insecure. With summer break coming up for kids, many families who rely on school-provided breakfasts and lunches may be struggling to purchase food. 100% of all donations will go to their three partners: Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD), Boston Medical Center (BMC)'s Preventative Food Pantry, and People Helping People, Inc. - Burlington MA to help deliver meals.
