We have a story in the latest issue of Neighbourhood Media detailing all the work we do via Addison Road Food Pantry Camperdown, our low-cost grocery store which makes use of rescued, donated and purchased food to support the local community and its needs. The story (link below) shows how we help feed people from Mission Australia's Common Ground housing project and the nearby Johanna O’Dea Court, a multi-storey NSW Family and Community Services apartment block. It also explains how we serve people living on a tight budget in Camperdown and Glebe, as well as people who come to the pantry from right across the City of Sydney LGA. Most of all, the story is a celebration of our monthly Addi Road 'Let's Get Cooking' sessions (AKA "the Cook-Up"), which offers 260 free hot meals for Mission Australia and Joanna O'Dea residents, as well as those shopping at our Addi Road Food Pantry Camperdown. These sessions involve a monthly cooking demo inside the Common Ground building. Food literacy is the ultimate goal behind Addi Road's Let's Get Cooking program. As well as simply providing a free hot meal (and dessert) each month, we look at helping people to shop AND cook with often very limited funds. Each month there are easy recipes on offer (and ready to be tasted) along extra tips for stocking people's kitchen cupboards; a list of essentials to facilitate simple, inexpensive and nutritious recipes that will match whatever Addi Road Food Pantry might have in stock. It's about building an integrated food ecology for people battling. With a few extra special ingredients over a shared meal as the community comes together: camaraderie and connection. + #Addiroad #cityofsydney #foodrelief #foodjustice #housing #inequality #Camperdown #Glebe #MissionAustralia #homeless #battling #costofliving #poverty #resilience #mentalhealth #wellbeing #nutrition #diet #charity #community #freemeals #cookingworkshop #volunteers #caring #education #connection #letsgetcooking #neighbourhoodmedia https://lnkd.in/gs7vVEvM

Did You Know each meal served during our #GivingbackFridays costs just R14 per plate? As part of our external services, we focus extensively on food security. #GivingBackFridays is our weekly dedication to serving a hot, nutritious meal to those in need in our community. Currently, our #GivingBackFridays costs R7000 per week. We serve about 500 people, which comes down to R14 per plate served. A little does go a long way, and although rising food prices continue to affect our budget, we work hard to stretch every rand by negotiating with grocery suppliers to get the lowest prices on food. How You Can Help: Your contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Here's how you can help us continue serving our community: Donate Food: Our soup kitchen menu and food quantities for #givingbackfridays are available on request. DM or email us info@fridahartley.org Sponsor a #GivingBackFriday: Every rand donated goes directly towards purchasing food and supplies. A SARS section 18A certificate can be issued. Get involved, and let's work together to eliminate hunger in our communities. #GivingBackFridays #CommunityOutreach #foodsecurity https://lnkd.in/dmiT6vGa

Today is #GivingTuesday, an annual day of giving that follows the consumer holidays of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. After snagging great deals on gifts or tech for yourself, take today to reflect on where you can financially give back this holiday season. I may be biased, but 412 Food Rescue is such a great option, since you're supporting hundreds of nonprofits with your dollars. As a food rescue, we partner with food retailers to pick up their surplus food (that's still fresh and safe to eat) and deliver it to local nonprofits serving the community – safe houses, schools, housing authorities, LGTBQIA+ programs, churches, etc. Taking off the burden of where someone's next meal is coming from means they can focus on other things like caregiving, job search, addiction recovery or their mental health. A cool byproduct is also that keeping this surplus food out of the landfill mitigates harmful greenhouse gases like methane from being released into the atmosphere. Your donation doesn't just deliver food, but also access, security, and sustainability. It's creating a better future for us all. Donate today 💚 https://lnkd.in/dAFNegqe

Starting TODAY! The Chick-Fil-A at the Americana at Brand will be hosting another food drive benefiting Ascencia! Did you know that Ascencia has a Food Pantry? Many of our permanently housed clients are provided with groceries from our food pantry during a routine check by their Case Manager. Tote bags are with canned goods, rice, beans, cereal etc. and go a long way in supporting our clients’ day-to-day needs. According to a recent survey with Los Angeles (L.A.) County residents participating in the Understanding America Study show that food insecurity increased in 2023, with 3 in 10 (30%) households experiencing food insecurity. This is a 6 percentage-point increase from 2022, when rates were 24%. Please consider dropping off pantry items like cereal, pasta noodles, and canned goods at 807 Americana Way in Glendale, starting today July 22nd until Saturday, July 27th. All donations will benefit Ascencia’s clients! For every 3 unexpired items you bring in, you’ll receive a Chick-fil-A Digital Offer Card as a token of your appreciation. THANK YOU Chick-Fil-A at the Americana at Brand for helping ensure that no one goes hungry at Ascencia. #FoodDrive #GivingBack #LiftingPeopleOutOfHomelessness #FoodInsecurity

Onya Nagi! The RecipeTin cook is our current cover star, sharing her plans (and heaps of good food) for RecipeTin Meals, her food bank that donates over 100k meals each year to those in need. Nagi tells us it's her top priority, and she’d “drop everything” to deliver the free meals... “even if I had an interview with that Big Issue journo or whatever.” 😅😅 Hungry for more? Buy a copy from your local vendor for the whole story, plus Nagi's first-ever recipe for Sticky Pantry Chicken, plus thrifty recipes from our vendors and YouTube sensation HowToCookThat.

Yesterday, we kicked off The Mayor's Fund for London 2024 winter delivery period, providing recipe kits and food boxes to young people and families across London. For many low-income families, the school holidays can amplify the challenges of food insecurity, particularly amidst the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. That’s why initiatives like ours are so vital—not only to meet immediate needs but also to empower families with the tools to create nutritious, home-cooked meals. What We’re Delivering: Take & Make Recipe Kits: Eleven ethnically diverse and nutritionally balanced kits designed using feedback from young people across London, celebrating the rich diversity of our city. Create & Make Boxes: Debuting this winter: 🌟 Festive Box: Ingredients for families to prepare a traditional Christmas dinner. 🕎 Hanukkah Festive Box: Essentials for creating dishes to celebrate the Hanukkah festival. Continuing our Standard Create & Make Box and Kosher Box deliveries throughout the holidays. These boxes aren’t just about food—they’re about dignity, community, and giving families the opportunity to enjoy cooking and eating together during what can otherwise be a very stressful time. Why This Matters: With the rising cost of essentials, food insecurity is an ever-present reality for many families. School holidays—when free school meals are unavailable—only heighten the pressure. Through these recipe kits and boxes, we’re helping families stretch their budgets while ensuring they have access to nutritious and culturally appropriate meals. This initiative reflects what can be achieved when we listen to the voices of young people and communities, designing support that meets their needs in meaningful ways. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this possible. Together, we’re not just providing food—we’re offering hope and support during one of the hardest times of the year. Let’s keep working toward a London where no child goes hungry. 💚 #FoodInsecurity #CostOfLivingCrisis #CommunitySupport #FoodForFamilies #MayorFundLondon #SocialImpact

Let's all work together to help others - check out this list of how to help.
As we welcome November and the holiday season, it’s a time of year for gratitude and a reminder of the power of giving back. Food banks across our communities are working hard to help families put together holiday meals, but they’re often short on critical items that can make a real difference. If you’re considering donating, here’s a list of high-need items shared by food bank volunteers: 1. Boxed milk, oil, and real butter/margarine for meal prep basics. 2. Canned foods with pop tops (or include a can opener!) to make meals accessible. 3. Essentials like spices, salt, and pepper to flavor holiday dishes. 4. Treasured items: sandwich bread, eggs, and fresh produce. 5. Cake mix and frosting to help make a child’s birthday a little brighter. 6. Dishwashing detergent is often expensive and is a blessing to families. 7. Tea bags and coffee brighten everyone's day. Looking to help out? Use these resources to find a food bank near you: 1. FeedingAmerica.org for a national network of food banks. 2. FoodPantries.org for a directory of food pantries, soup kitchens, and food banks. 3. FindHelp.org for food and other assistance programs based on location. This season, let’s work together to support those in need. Small donations can mean a lot to families looking to create special holiday moments. #EOATechnologies #GivingBack #FoodBankSupport #HolidaySeason #CommunityMatters #MissionFirst
