As Mental Health Awareness Week approaches, Civils & Lintels are proud to continue raising awareness of mental health in the construction sector. Since the start of 2022, we've embarked on a partnership with Mates in Mind, and have so far raised almost £45,000 to aid in their vital work. Why Mates in Mind? Because we believe in fostering a culture where mental health is valued, supported, and understood without judgment or stigma. The construction industry, like many others, faces its unique challenges, and addressing mental health is paramount especially as suicide rates amongst construction workers are 3.7 times higher than the national average. If you, or anyone you know is struggling and need some support, please use their free “Be a Mate” text service; totally confidential and open 24/7, simply text “Beamate” to 85258. #MentalHealthAwareness #MatesinMind #BeTheChange #ConstructionCares #EndTheStigma

Did you know? In the past year, 59% of construction workers have experienced mental health challenges, yet many feel unable to voice their struggles. Tragically, two construction workers take their own lives each day, highlighting the urgent need to address these issues head-on. The construction industry can be both physically and mentally demanding, which can negatively impact mental well-being. We are corporate supporters of The Lighthouse Charity, the only organisation in the UK fully committed to emotional, physical, and financial wellness in our industry. They provide both in-person and telephone services, including a 24/7 helpline, live web chat, and safe spaces where you can share problems or issues that encourage open discussions about mental health without judgment. By increasing awareness within our industry, we can better identify signs of stress, anxiety, or depression in our colleagues and create an environment that promotes healing conversations. #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #MentalHealthAwareness

Today is #WorldSuicideDay 💚 Kier Construction have been delivering Toolbox Talks across the South as part of our commitment to improve and raise awareness on Mental Health. Workers in construction are at some of the highest risk of suicide. In 2021, 507 construction workers died by suicide, which equates to an average of 2 workers a day. That is why we start these conversations and we raise awareness. By starting conversations we can stop the stigma and encourage people to talk more openly. I'm standing with Samaritans this #WorldSuicideDay 💚 Only 45% of people are comfortable talking about suicidal thoughts - it's time we change that. Find out more about how you can be part of this change 👉 https://bit.ly/34sfcMK

Today is World Mental Health Day and we are doing our bit to spread awareness and break the stigma of mental health in the construction industry. The construction industry is one of those with the highest risk of mental illness due to the mental and physical strain it can cause. There is often a ‘tough guy’ culture associated with the industry which prevents people from reaching out. In fact, 92% of construction workers feel uncomfortable discussing their mental health. We believe mental health is just as important as physical health, and nobody should struggle in silence. 1 in 4 people suffer with poor mental health so it’s time to speak up and break the stigma. We support The Lighthouse Charity and introduce all our employees to their services, while also having our own mental health first aid trained employees to ensure maximum support is available. The Lighthouse Charity offers free, widely accessible resources to pro-actively support workers in the construction industry. These resources include a 24/7 helpline, a self-support app, text HARDHAT support service, live chat, lighthouse beacons, and education & training. In 2023 they visited 390 sites across the UK and Ireland, engaging almost 26,000 people and allowing 139 workers to express their mental health struggles, enabling the charity to provide support. As well, they supported 4,435 families in need and provided 5,411 emergency meals. If you are or know someone who is struggling with their mental health don't be afraid to reach out, there are plenty of resources out there to help you cope. . . . #reeds #reedsconstruction #reedsengineering #construction #engineering #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #constructionline #lighthouse #lighthousecharity #matesinmind #worldmentalhealthday #makeitvisible
