We sincerely thank United Way of the Greater Capital Region and The Blake Annex for hosting this morning's significant gathering. It was an honor to have our CEO, Heather Briccetti Mulligan, participate in a productive meeting alongside our esteemed partners discussing the objectives of the Ellis Island Initiative. Together, we engaged in a meaningful dialogue on collaborative strategies among local stakeholders to embrace migrants seeking a brighter future in our community.
The Ellis Island Initiative represents a robust statewide coalition, bringing together New York's leading labor, business, faith, and advocacy organizations. Our collective aim is to transform the state's approach to integrating asylum-seeking families into our communities. The past eighteen months have seen an influx of over 100,000 individuals fleeing violence, persecution, and dire circumstances, emphasizing the pressing need for compassionate and pragmatic solutions here in New York State.
