The World Ocean Day action for July is officially out! As a citizen of the world, you can help protect the largest habitat on Earth - the deep sea! For a long time, we believed the ocean was so huge and full of life that nothing we did could harm it and its abundance. We thought that pollution would simply dilute away. However, current corporate plans could cause severe disruption and pollution, and we urgently need to understand our deep-sea ecosystems and their importance to our planet, its people, and the atmosphere. This World Environment Day, let's commit to restoring our precious planet. The theme for 2024 is to address desertification, revive water sources, and nurture the soils that sustain us all. Why Salubris? The name ‘Salubris’ comes from the Eucalyptus salubris of the Great Western Woodlands, a tree that has long been admired for its resilience and beauty in this harsh environment. The first Europeans named the tree after the Latin term for “healthful, wholesome and beneficial”. It encapsulates the attributes we’re bringing to the fight against climate change. "Our Land, Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration" This is the theme of this year’s Environmental Day. While the theme emphasizes the importance of restoring land, combating desertification, and enhancing resilience to drought, it is the hashtag that caught my attention. #GenerationRestoration Yes, we are the generation responsible for the restoration of the environment—returning the earth to its pristine state. We are the generation that must act steadily and decisively before it is too late! But we are also the generation that cares! Growing up learning about the warnings of climate change, rising sea levels, and ozone depletion, we are now at a stage where we can make a real difference. We are the generation that is environmentally conscious, unafraid to voice our concerns, and ready to lead for a better world. We are the generation that understands the importance of incorporating sustainable principles into our lives and living in harmony with nature. We are the generation that aims not just to prevent further damage but to repair the harm done and restore the earth to its fullest health. Because we are #GenerationRestoration. Be the change! Understanding Blur Carbon Ecosystems: A primer Continuing our journey into the world of Blue Carbon Ecosystems, today I'm excited to share the extent and present scenario of these Ecosystems. 🌏Blue carbon ecosystems, encompassing mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrasses, are crucial in the fight against climate change. These ecosystems serve as natural carbon sinks, sequestering significant amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. However, their extent and health are increasingly under threat due to human activities and climate change. Let’s take a closer look at where these ecosystems are found and their present condition. We must advocate for stronger protection and restoration initiatives to safeguard these invaluable ecosystems.
