🤔 In case you missed it... ➡ In the framework of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of European Union, last week the city of Brussels hosted the 2024 edition of the Connecting Europe Days, Europe’s mobility flagship event. The Connecting Europe by Air side event was a particularly insightful initiative, which gathered policy makers and aviation industry stakeholders from all over #Europe to discuss the critical role of aviation in ensuring #connectivity & #sustainability within the European transport system. 🛫 The event also provided a platform to explore innovative EU-funded aviation projects showcased across the venue. 💡 The major highlights during the panels? • Security needs to be ensured at every level and in every shape. • Sustainable mobility must emerge as a priority also through the EU citizens's vote at the upcoming European Parliament elections. • Although there is no silver bullet solution to make aviation more sustainable, there are several silver bullet solutions that can be put in place, one complementing the other. 🙌 Let's continue working together towards sustainable flights! 🔗https://bit.ly/4aD621u

Welcome on board to the new Commissioner-designate for sustainable transport and tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas - yes, it's (yet) another Greek. Airlines for Europe (A4E) published our alternative mission letter for the new Commissioner, with insights ranging from moving to Brussels as a Greek to how to deliver a competitive aviation for a competitive Europe. Here's what we propose 👉 https://lnkd.in/gAZJf5rW Fasten your seatbelt, next stop is the European Parliament hearings. ✈ We need a Commission that will focus on the big things and help us keep Europe connected to each-other and the world. We need an EU that will tackle head-on the priorities identified in the Draghi report. #flyingforourfuture

In European elections week, and as transport and connectivity are the heart of European projects, ERA would like to stress that air connectivity is essential to ensure equal opportunities to all European citizens regardless of their territories, developing regional economies and local communities. Regional airlines provide air services to all territories of Europe, both for passengers and cargo. Regional airlines cannot be left behind and their specificities must be considered to ensure European citizens continue to enjoy the freedom to fly and access to goods and services even in remote destinations, at affordable prices. We support the decarbonisation of air transport through the development and implementation of SAF and the progress of zero-emission technologies on short-haul routes, which need to be politically and financially supported. #ThinkRegional – so no region, business or citizen is left behind

As the dust settles following the European elections, attention now turns to the agenda in Brussels for the next five years. As airlines accelerate their progress towards their target of Net Zero emissions by 2050, policymakers need to seize the opportunity to make Europe a global leader for sustainable aviation while driving competitiveness across the EU. We're calling on new MEPs and the new Commission to: 🗸 Provide incentives to supercharge the production of SAFs across Europe 🗸 Ensure funding and support for SAF projects or fuel producers 🗸 Coordinate with the European aviation sector to boost the adoption of SAFs 🗸 Ensure Europe has a strong airline sector that can compete on the global stage Discover more about A4E's commitment and our call to action here: https://lnkd.in/ebpVfUfv #FlyingForOurFuture

🚨 European Union Policy Priorities 2024-2029 by Air France-KLM Today, #AirFranceKLM presented its European Union policy priorities for the 2024-2029 period. To be effective, public policy should accompany the aviation sector in both achieving its climate goals and ensuring its competitiveness. Read the full text 👇🏻
Today, #AirFranceKLM presented its European Union policy priorities for the 2024-2029 period. To be effective, public policy should accompany the aviation sector in both achieving its climate goals and ensuring its competitiveness. While decarbonization is one of our industry’s biggest challenges, we believe that – given the right tools and incentives – we can be at the forefront of a more sustainable and competitive aviation sector. As we approach the 2024 European elections, Air France-KLM encourages the prioritization of the following areas: ➡ Achieving our climate goals - Air France-KLM is committed to incorporating at least 10% of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on all its flights by 2030 (going beyond the minimums mandated by EU law). - Decarbonizing European aviation will require developing a robust SAF industry. Flexibility mechanisms, such as a Book & Claim model, can foster the deployment of SAF in the early stages of development where supply is limited. ➡ Ensuring a competitive European aviation industry - Given the global nature of network airlines, climate action should be enacted at the global level as much as possible to preserve a level playing field. - Air France-KLM strongly encourages worldwide ambitions such as the ICAO’s long term aspirational goal on net-zero emissions by 2050. - Air France-KLM supports the promotion of strong European environmental and social standards vis-à-vis non-EU countries. ➡ Continuing to put our customers first Air France-KLM is committed to ensuring clear, balanced, and fair passenger rights for all our customers. - Through our “Air & Rail” product, we are promoting the use of multimodal journeys wherever possible. We believe that passengers should have the freedom to choose their preferred mode of transportation, and that future EU frameworks should encourage that direction. This week, as Brussels welcomes the #ConnectingEurope Days under the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024, ACI EUROPE joined 40+ European organisations calling for more EU budget to be allocated to transport. Our Director General Olivier Jankovec said, "We believe that there should also be a fairer allocation of the funds amongst different transport modes." The investment needs of airports should be considered as a matter of priority. ✈️ According to the independent study from the consultancies SEO and NLR, fully decarbonising air transport by 2050 will require funding in excess of €820 billion. Whilst aviation stakeholders are fully committed to the objectives of the EU Green Deal, and have embraced the Fit for 55 legislative package, the sector will not be able to go it alone in financing its transition. Exciting news! 🚀 The EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) regulations will come into force this week, defining new rules for the EU rail transport network and setting out the requirements to ensure coherent quality throughout the EU. These regulations highlight a minimum speed requirement of 160 km/h or faster and mandate the deployment of single European signalling system - ERTMS across the entire TEN-T network, while all the national systems will be phased out! #TEN_T #EuropeanRailways #EuropeanTransportCorridors #EU #RailTransport #EuropeanCommission
