Research led by Drs. Derald Holtkamp and Henry Osemeke at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine recently updated the economic cost of PRRSV in the U.S., estimating that the value of productivity losses due to PRRSV is now $1.1 billion annually. The $1.1 billion estimate is up from the previous estimates of $664 million in 2006 to 2010 and $560 million in 2000 to 2005.
