Happy after a day of insightful and challenging discussions at the Patient Centricity and Engagement Conference in beautiful Amsterdam, with Kevin Santo, Shivangni Tandon, and Dominique Rüedi, MBA!
I enjoyed representing ZS and speaking on global patient advocacy efforts, how we need to take an honest look at our work today, and where we need to turbocharge PAG empowerment efforts so our patients can live lives that aren't constantly eclipsed by uncertainty and fear.
Three reflections from our conversations ...
1. PAGs are diverse in origin, size, and capabilities, but they all have strong positive intent and tangible impact - how can we work together to enhance solutions and expand reach? 🤔
2. As we partner across the healthcare ecosystem, we need to acknowledge the core strengths of PAGs, i.e., trust and credibility. So, how do we generate urgency around starting conversations with them sooner? As early as Phase 1? ⏰
3. Standalone solutions built in a vacuum do not work. Can we reframe our way of thinking, and harness tech and digital to build strong solution foundations, while retaining the human-led aspects of patient offerings? 🙋🏻♀️
We need to create a safe space for PAGs and patients to share experiences, even the tough-to-hear parts, and move away from our current checklist approach of assessing the relevance and uptake of treatments and solutions.
True co-creation requires bravely stepping out of the echo chamber, and trusting our abilities to pivot and improve, so patients are not waiting years for a diagnosis, or delaying treatment because they don't understand the impact on life.
The patient advocacy revolution is (finally) upon us!
Thanks to Gila Allswang, Victoria L. Summers and Pranav Srivastava for support and guidance on this talk.
