CLOCS Partner Update: TRL Motorcade to monitor fleet power sources The Government is funding several programmes to develop new vehicle technologies and fuel/energy supply chains. To provide independent monitoring and evaluation of these trials TRL has developed a tool – Motorcade - to systematically collect data from vehicle fleets which will reveal the performance of these technologies and their energy consumption. The data collected will support evidence-based policy decision-making and commercial strategic planning regarding the deployment of fleets employing new fuel types. The landscape of commercial electric vehicles is evolving rapidly. Recent trends show a significant increase in electric truck sales in the U.S. and Europe, driven by broader model availability, policy support, and improving economic viability. Fleet owners, primarily influenced by high gas prices and lower electricity costs, are increasingly considering CEVs. However, concerns around the total cost of ownership, charging infrastructure, and transitioning from internal combustion engines are still prevalent. Ensuring that the energy grid is prepared for this wide-scale transformation is crucial for the widespread adoption of CEVs. #CleanEnergy #FutureOfEnergy #EnergyGrid

This is news that warms my heart - a rail industry pioneer collaborating with the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). Cheers to Parallel Systems and NREL for working together to advance decarbonization and automation. Parallel Systems is developing an innovative self-propelled, battery operated car that leverages the safest, most efficient way to move freight - on railroads. Successfully tested Down Under and soon to be tested here in Georgia, their automated rail cars will transform short haul freight, for starters. The potential to divert freight from truck to rail with these cars is enormous. The benefits are energy efficiency, safety, and reduced congestion on highways (and counting). The former Space X engineers who are piloting Parallel Systems have a great partner in NREL. One of 17 Department of Energy labs, NREL is at the leading edge of making our clean energy future happen. In this case, NREL's contribution is its ALTRIOS open-source software for optimizing rail decarbonization. It was built though collaboration with the rail industry (props to BNSF!) and a number of academic institutions. Having time in both railroading and energy, I am gratified to see two sectors coming together for a shared mission. Want to know more about railroading and energy transition? Stick with me. Want know more about our national energy labs? Check out the link in the comments below. Our national labs have always had a big (and sometimes secret) mission. With climate change affecting all of us, it's mission critical now even more than ever. #parallelsystems #nrel #railroads #energytransition

🌍 I will be proud, this Thursday, to be part of the "Trilogy for the Grid" webinar series! Join us to debate the Solutions for grid-friendly roll-out of electric heavy duty vehicles 🗓️ Date: 19th September, 10:00 AM CEST ⏳ Duration: 45 minutes 📍 Where: Online 🔗 Information and registration: https://lnkd.in/gurZuSZX While the importance of driving the uptake of the required infrastructures for #eTrucks is unanismously recognised, the new European Commission must come up with measures to complement the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (#AFIR) and Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (#EPBD). The challenges in this area span multiple sectors, from energy, through land management and on to data security. By joining this webinar, we want to emphasise the importance of cooperation between all sectors of the electric road transport system. We’ll discuss the key elements that legislators should keep in mind when addressing this topic. 💡 Pro tip: You can also register for the next episode now! 🔌 Episode 3: 26th September https://lnkd.in/dHwfN4UQ

𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 ⚡🔄 Did you think regenerative brakes were first introduced in F1 and electric cars? Well, you should know that the railway sector has been using them since the 𝟭𝟵𝟲𝟬𝘀. What are Regenerative Brakes? Basically, they convert the train's kinetic energy into electricity during the braking process. This energy can be reused to power other train systems or returned to the overhead lines and the electrical grid if the substations are prepared for it. Although we can't be pioneers in everything in the railway sector, now we just need to standardize the measurement of energy consumption according to the EN 50463 (Energy Measurement System - EMS) on board trains. This way, operators can start charging for the regenerated energy. _______________________________________ Follow us on: https://lnkd.in/dbztgyiP #RailwayTransport #TechnologicalInnovation #RegenerativeBrakes #Sustainability #Engineering
