The tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore underscores a critical issue for our industry: the dire state of aging infrastructure. Across the globe, countless bridges, roads, and other structures are deteriorating, posing immense risks to public safety and the economy. The Baltimore incident is just the latest wake-up call. As AEC professionals, we have a responsibility to advocate for robust, sustained investment in infrastructure maintenance and modernization. Deferred repairs and upgrades are no longer an option. But as we tackle this challenge, we must also prioritize the safety of our construction workers. Rehabilitating aging structures inherently carries heightened risks. Worker protection must be a non-negotiable priority. There are no easy solutions, but inaction is not an option. It's time for our industry to lead a dialogue on building more resilient, sustainable infrastructure – infrastructure that safeguards both the public and the workers who build and maintain it. The design-build team of E.S. Wagner Company and Holt Consulting Company, LLC was announced as the apparent best value proposer for SCDOT Design-Build Package 20 based on highest weighted criteria score. Package 20 consists of the replacement of seven bridges in Chesterfield, Fairfield, Lancaster, and York Counties. In combination with Package 15, which is already underway, E.S. Wagner and Holt will work together to replace a total of 11 bridges in 3 years! SCDOT maintains over 8,400 bridges across the state. Currently, less than 10% of the South Carolina’s Bridges are in poor condition. Over the next 10 years, SCDOT is focused on eliminating structurally deficient bridges on its National Highway System and reducing the number of load restricted bridges on the state’s secondary system.  Design-Build Bridge Packages are a key part of these efforts. #designbuild #bridge #civilengineering #construction

According to a report from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, one in three bridges in the U.S. needs repair or replacement. We partner with agencies nationwide to ensure local bridges are safe and dependable for generations to come. The Vermont Agency of Transportation selected us as the Prime Consultant for Phase 1 design services to rehabilitate nine bridge structures along the Green Mountain Railroad in southern Vermont. Throughout the project, we will look to minimize impacts on rail operations and local cultural or environmental factors. This includes examining innovative bridge replacement options and Accelerated Bridge Construction techniques to reduce onsite construction while considering ease of maintenance and the region’s extreme weather. Preliminary 2024 net new construction in #RiverFalls is 3.58 percent! This number is comprised of a 7.60 percent increase in St. Croix County and a 1.15 percent increase in Pierce County. This is the City of River Falls third largest net new construction since 2017! #economicdevelopment #growth #construction
