Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science! 🌐👩🔬 Let's acknowledge the incredible contributions of women in STEM fields and inspire the next generation. According to the Women's engineering society (WES) "Women make up 16.5% of all engineers, compared to 10.5% reported in 2010" and "Young people who attend STEM Outreach events are more likely to know what engineers do- but only a quarter of those surveyed had been to such an event." Let us strive to promote STEM jobs to the younger generation inclusive of young women. Our community has indeed woven its vibrant threads into the rich tapestry of American society, leaving an indelible mark in all spheres. But when we talk about STEM, there's a special kind of magic happening. Latina women in STEM are trailblazers, breaking barriers, and challenging stereotypes. We're researchers, engineers, coders, scientists, and innovators, contributing to groundbreaking discoveries and technological advancements. Our journey in STEM might be marked by unique challenges, but our resilience and determination are unmatched. We're rewriting the narrative, inspiring future generations to follow their dreams, no matter where they come from. Representation matters. The STEM fields are responsible for identifying and solving the big issues of the world and the future. They're pioneering ground-breaking technologies everyday, for the sake of a brighter, greener, more advanced future. The STEM industries impact all of us, so we should all be represented within them. Women make up half of society, black women make up 11% (and yet represent only 2% of the STEM workforce). Without these unique perspectives and ideas, how can we be sure that we're making as much progress as possible? We NEED women in STEM because women make up half of the society STEM serves. We need to not only empower young women to enter STEM but also advocate for and support the women already in STEM. A survey taken a few years ago revealed that only 30 percent of women who earn bachelor’s degrees in engineering are still working in engineering 20 years later.  A third of these women cited organisational climate as the reason for leaving their profession.  It's time to stop making excuses and start supporting the women who are making a difference in STEM!
