1. This is a clip of Clint Eastwood who drove a 1988 vintage Mercedes Benz till 2015 ie 27 years. Here in the clip we see him buying fuel for his car at the Gas Station. 2. Now contrast with Bharat where in 2024, one cannot drive a 2014 vintage Diesel and 2009 vintage Petrol, even if the Engine has not been exploited to its full life as also it is meeting "Pollution Under Check" (PUC) norms. It is indeed a waste of resource, if the "Automotive Industry" has initiated this policy through the "Ministry of Surface Transport" for a myopic gain for themselves ie to have a captive automobile market, which is further facilitated courtesy "Entry Barriers" in form of high import duties for foreign OEM automobiles which are priced lesser for products with better features. 3. This wasteful, myopic policy ought to be changed aka the Diesel and Petrol vehicles can be re-registered after a period of 10 and 15 respectively, if their Engines have not been exploited to the fullest as also if meeting PUC norms as in Bharat.

A goliath is readying itself for a new arena. Steel-to-power giant JSW Group’s joint venture with China’s SAIC – JSW MG Motor India Pvt Ltd (J-MG) – to make new-energy vehicles (NEVs) is billionaire Sajjan Jindal’s way of scratching an itch to enter carmaking. In March, JSW chief Jindal said that he dreams of creating a NEV ‘Maruti movement’. J-MG aims to launch a new car every three to six months starting September 2024 and sell 1 million NEVs by 2030. The Indian market is estimated to reach 7-8 million annual car sales by 2030, and J-MG’s target means it’s gunning for 13-14% market share. Hitting 1 million sales in seven years is ambitious by any measure, but not impossible. Those involved aren’t just ballsy upstarts, after all. Both JSW and SAIC have the capital and ability to quickly scale up. But the venture’s success hinges on some key factors, including geopolitical shifts, navigating a transnational partnership, and most importantly, earning the trust of the value-conscious Indian consumer. Can they crack it? I write for The Core. Story linked in the comments. Harshvardhan Sharma Puneet Gupta Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations
