The hospitality sector development in central Ohio is so inspiring! I see some fascinating implications from work in Franklinton and have some thoughts! 🍽️ Restaurant Expansion Opportunities: With the influx of new residents and businesses, there's potential for savvy restaurateurs to establish unique concepts in Franklinton. The Walnut Street small business corridor, in particular, could be prime real estate for new eateries. 🏘️ Workforce Housing Impact: The focus on workforce housing in projects like Westrich could help address one of our industry's biggest challenges - employee retention. More affordable housing near urban centers can make it easier for restaurant staff to live close to work. 🏛️ Historic Redevelopment Potential: The Spaghetti Warehouse site discussion reminds me of how successful some restaurants have been in repurposing historic buildings. There might be opportunities for creative operators to preserve Franklinton's character while opening exciting new venues. 🌈 Diversification of Clientele: As Franklinton attracts a mix of income levels, restaurants will need to cater to diverse tastes and price points. This could lead to interesting hybrid concepts that appeal to both long-time residents and newcomers. 🎉 Event and Catering Growth: New residential developments and business corridors often lead to increased demand for event spaces and catering services. Local restaurants should be ready to capitalize on this. 🍺 Brewery and Distillery Synergies: With established players like Land-Grant Brewing in the area, there's potential for more craft beverage producers to cluster in Franklinton, creating a destination for food and drink enthusiasts. 🎓 Training Partnerships: As new businesses move in, there may be opportunities for restaurants to partner with workforce development programs or local schools to create job training initiatives. From my perspective, Franklinton's development isn't just about real estate - it's about the evolution of Columbus's culinary scene and the creation of new opportunities for our industry. Restaurateurs who stay ahead of these trends could find themselves well-positioned in this rapidly changing neighborhood. Shout out to the Franklinton Board of Trade for their tireless efforts in fostering this growth! Their work in community development and business support is instrumental in making these opportunities a reality. What do you think? Do these insights resonate with what you're seeing in the industry? #FranklintonDevelopment #ColumbusFood #HospitalityTrends #ORHA

Michael Baker International today announced the opening of the firm’s Fayetteville, Arkansas, office. The office is the firm’s third Arkansas location, joining outposts in Little Rock and Bentonville, and will serve as an extension of Bentonville operations, which has exceeded its existing office capacity due to the high demand for the firm’s urban roadway design and construction inspection services in Northwest Arkansas. It's all about exchanging the experiences for us at Būves nākotnei / CONSTRUCTIVE, so no trip is whole without understanding (or at least trying to) local construction process trends, challenges and overall culture. My first impression is that in New York City you won't see almost any construction on the street level, you have to go higher ⬆️ 💰 According to Turner & Townsend International Construction Market Survey 2024, New York City is the most expensive market to build for the second year in a row. The average construction cost per m2 is 5,723 USD - not surprised as the space for new construction is so limited in Manhattan. Limited space in Manhattan creates unique logistical challenges. Many construction sites rely on vertical storage solutions and precise scheduling to manage deliveries and material storage. I'll share a bit more of my insights from this one of a kind city in the upcoming days 🙌

We’re thrilled to be hosting Unlocking Nottingham: From Potential to Permission—a dynamic panel event designed to explore the exciting opportunities shaping Nottingham’s future! Join us on Thursday 23 January from 17:30 - 20:00, as Jenny Keen MRTPI, Sarah MacPherson MRTPI, Hannah Hamilton-Rutter and guest speakers Victoria Green and Paul Seddon discuss what landowners, developers, and their advisors, can do to take advantage of existing properties and land from small-scale conversions, adding additional storeys, to a complete redevelopment from the ground up. We will challenge the narrative that brownfield sites, conversions, and particularly historic buildings are ‘too hard’ or ‘too expensive’ to add commercial value to your portfolio. Following the development timeline from inception to delivery, we will cover the following key areas: - Demystifying design and heritage issues and opportunities - Making the most out of pre-application engagement - How the changing national and local plan context and legislation changes impact development in Nottingham Whether you're in development, design, or simply passionate about Nottingham’s future, this is your chance to be part of the conversation. https://lnkd.in/e-kYd6BE Nicki Edwards #UnlockingNottingham #UrbanGrowth #MarronsArchitecture #CityPlanning #SustainableDevelopment

A newly built house in Detroit's North Corktown neighborhood stands as an example of what two local architects believe could be one way out of the nation's housing shortage. The principals with Detroit-based ourhoum say the goal with their company is to scale the methods used to build the house in a matter of months, done in a cost-efficient and environmentally sustainable manner. Doing so, they say, can greatly reduce the cost of building new in-fill housing in legacy cities such as Detroit.
