1 in 5 kids face hunger in America. To help make sure families and kids in our community and across the country have access to nutritious food, we partner with Feeding America, which supports local programs like mobile meal sites and summer meals for kids. Each Fall, I embark on my "Fundraising Frenzy" to support a local organization, matching donations along the way. This year, I am dedicated to Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children, a local organization that focuses on providing Food for Kids. Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children is a remarkable local initiative, sending over 500 families in the area 60 lbs of fresh food, necessities, and more each week. The need is clear - kids are going hungry. Shockingly, 1 in 6 kids in CT experience food insecurity, but since 2018, Camella's Cupboard has been making a difference. It's all about the kids. If you would like to support this cause, there are several ways to help or donate! 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐭𝐭𝐩𝐬://𝐛𝐢𝐭.𝐥𝐲/𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐂𝐮𝐩𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲. Paying it forward
Wakefern Food Corp. has always been equal parts heart ❤️ and ambition. So, with the close of the successful 2024 Wakefern Showcase, we were proud to partner with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and donate nearly four trucks of fresh foods and groceries from the Showcase supermarket displays. These donated items will help as many as 20,000 families in our region. Thanks to all the team members who volunteered to pack and load – and to the CFBNJ for their ongoing commitment and creativity in the fight against hunger.

Food donations are lowest in summer months, just when families need additional food to feed children who are home on summer break. Without the schools’ free or reduced-cost breakfasts and lunches, our families struggle more in summer months to provide full, nutritious meals for their children. Last month, we were short over 1,000 items for our June distribution. As we prepare for July and August distributions, we anticipate even larger collection shortages. While our donations are at their lowest, the need in our community is at its highest. Currently, over 2,500 individuals (663 families) in Chapel Hill and Carrboro rely on our monthly Food for Families distributions, including 1,450 children. Can you help us fill the gap in donations with a financial gift? 30 can help us bridge the gap for 2 families. $60 will ensure full bags for 4 families. $100 means 7 families will receive all food categories for every summer food distribution. The more access to resources that struggling kids have, the more likely they are to stick it out and stay in school and eventually graduate, get a GED or go to college. This was a driving force for our Kitsap Chapter’s “Weekend Food Bags” program. While many unaccompanied, homeless or at-risk students receive a free lunch during the week through state and federal programs, they often do without on the weekend. Through a partnership model with four regional school districts and the local community college, and funding via donations, Kitsap provides each month: –1400+ food packs to 400+ young hands who need them. Each pack contains three meals, snacks, juice box, treat and napkin/utensil. – 6,200 individual snacks and easy-entrees (Cup Noodle Soups/microwavable Mac & Cheese cups) to counselors and teachers to support another 300-350 youth who don't qualify for government-subsidized meals but are still experiencing hunger. A small, key volunteer crew, led by Executive Director Margaret Rodriguez and Assistant Chapter Director Felicia Hord, helps store, assemble and deliver the much-appreciated packs across their sprawling, rural area in Western Washington. We love the impact they’re making to reduce food insecurity and break the cycle of students dropping out of school. But as Felicia shares, “So many more hands we need, so much more we could be doing.” Read about our Kitsap Chapter here: https://buff.ly/4afwCxK #StandUpInAction #Kitsap #KitsapCounty #FoodInsecurity #EndHunger #FoodRescue #Hope #Donation #CycleOfHope

Watch the video tour of the P.A.C.K. facility! Recently, we had an incredible PACK the Van event at the Isle of Hope, where we got an exclusive tour of the P.A.C.K. warehouse and distribution center, guided by Malena Stone herself! The organization and beauty she has infused into this space are truly breathtaking. For those who appreciate an impeccably organized environment (yes, fellow OCD friends, I'm talking to you!), this place is a dream. The bag-packing area operates with unparalleled efficiency – a model of streamlined operations crucial for packing over 4,300 weekly bags for kids. With 1 in 3 children in Southeast Georgia facing food insecurity, the impact of this efficiency cannot be overstated. Malena explained there are another 2000 kids on the waiting list for these food bags! But there's more to the warehouse than just efficiency; the shop area, thoughtfully designed by Malena, creates an experience akin to shopping in a high-end store for the kids. This beautiful, clean, and welcoming space is where children can select clothes and supplies that would otherwise be unaffordable for them. Additionally, it's here that 'emergency bags' are prepared for kids in urgent need, often with nothing but the clothes on their backs. These emergency bags, akin to overnight bags, are equipped with a change of clothes and essential items to support the children for a day or two. Words can not do justice to how impressive this place is – you have to see it for yourself. Check out our video for a full tour, and prepare to be amazed! In light of recent budget cuts, they desperately need the support!! (our ingenious politicians have cut 70% of their budget) P.A.C.K. needs our support more than ever to continue their vital work. Every donation makes a difference in combating child hunger in our community. Click the link below to donate NOW, and help us keep making a positive impact!
