Golf has long been the cliché networking social event for lawyers like me and other professionals outside of the traditional bars, lunches, and coffee. However, I have always noticed that there are several bars to entry: having sufficient skill; having sufficient time; having sufficient funds to purchase golf clubs; knowing the right people; and other more historic bars to entry that prevented everyone (and I mean everyone) from participating (which I would be remiss not to acknowledge). Lately, I have been thinking about changing the above as I progress in my own golf journey. Accordingly, like how other folks have put together social events through the Minnesota State Bar Association, I have been thinking of putting together a “shoddy golfers group” ALL lawyers and other professionals are welcome, where we play entry level courses, only play 9 holes, and everyone of all skill levels are welcome, which hopefully should address some of the above-mentioned barriers. I also have a spare set of clubs that I am happy to loan someone. Any interest? #MSBA #lawyers #minnesota #twincities #minneapolis #golf #networking

Thank you, everyone! This has received an overwhelming response. I am in the process of setting something up through the MSBA to begin. To get things started, we need a name. Anyone have ideas? Bad Golfers Association (“BGA”)? Please feel free to respond!

Count me in. Basketball athleticism takes you far, but nowhere close to being a scratch golfer. Ball is too small, clubs are never long enough, ruthless game, but am constantly looking to play more and improve

Colin - that's a great idea! You may want to reach out to the Hennepin County Bar Association as well. They tried some of these interest groups several years ago, I think there may have been a golf one. Not sure if they'd have the list anymore, but good way to drum up some more interest.

I'd love to learn to golf if someone could show me. This sounds fun!
