What an incredible journey it was at the "Changes in Female Leadership" event hosted by the International Women's Alliance (IWA) this March 16th! 🌟 Thank you to all who joined us on this wonderful afternoon. In an intimate gathering that felt both powerful and personal, we delved deep into the evolving landscape of female leadership. Our heartfelt thanks go to our remarkable speakers, Heloise dos Santos, Jess Harvey, Tess Diaz, and Naila Mehrabova, who shared their invaluable insights on everything from transparent communication of your brand's purpose to contemporary leadership strategies in IT and beyond. Each conversation, each story, was a testament to the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women leading change across industries. The richness of discussion and the genuine connections formed were truly the highlights of the day. SOMETIMES RECOGNITION COMES AS A LATE SURPRISE.... When I found myself becoming a single mum I set up one of the first after-school care programs in our state so I and other parents could ensure the safety and care of our children while we worked. When I moved away from the city and was cut off from quality women's business networks I initiated a local one that would address real business development needs for women of all ages - beyond purely how to cope as a young mum. When I discovered the power of eastern wisdom to transform how we see ourselves and how we work together I created a new business called 'Conscious Leadership'. Twenty-one years later I still support leaders in developing their innate power and perception for a better working world. All of these initiatives took the enthusiasm and close collaboration of many other women and men for them to be realised. We had a shared need and together we ensured these needs were met. Last year I won two awards. One recognised the work I had done for women in business over time, the other for the leadership I have shown in advancing the way we see ourselves and how we can uplift the workplace. Both of these awards came out of the blue as huge surprises I am most grateful for. They came many years down the track, revealing that recognition can come at the least expected times. They also came from people I didn't know were noticing... Which women do you know, in this International Women's week, who deserve to be recognised for their long, sometimes quiet contributions to the advancement of our way of life? Let them know. Award them in whatever way you can. One yardstick: The only industries in Australia with fewer female leaders than the events industry are construction and mining, two heavily male-dominated industries, according to Lyn Lewis-Smith, CEO of BESydney. A research report by BESydney and the PCMA Foundation, 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲, reveals that while women make up 70% of the global business events workforce, fewer than one in five hold senior leadership positions. The report explores the causes of this disparity and offers actionable strategies for change. Familiar strategies like mentorship programs and goal-setting are included, but there are also innovative ideas such as training male leaders to support women’s advancement and providing childcare options at events for parents traveling for business.
