Next Level Nola is Collegiate Academies' free, one-year fellowship that offers New Orleans graduating seniors the opportunity to earn both college credits and industry credentials. The average NLN fellow saves nearly $20,000 in college tuition. A senior at Walter L. Cohen, Marlon plans to work towards an associate's degree in business while also earning credentials to become an electrician. Congratulations, Marlon!

The criteria for platinum schools is: 🏅Expand your school’s college culture by enabling at least 80% of your graduating class to experience 1 AP course before graduating. Westminster achieved 94%. 🏅Assist with college affordability by enabling at least 50% of your graduating class to earn college credit by earning an AP Exam score of 3. Westminster achieved 71%. 🏅Optimize student’s college readiness by creating opportunities for at least 15% of your graduating class to take a total of 5 APs across their high school years, with at least 1 taken in 9th or 10th grade. Westminster achieved 56%.

It has been such an honor to work with the CCBA team over the last year to align two innovative models- community college bachelors and competency-based education. When stars align, the best outcomes for students are reached! New research results out this week from Debra Bragg and Iris Palmer highlight the success of South Texas College and our C-BEN board member, Emma Lemus-Miller, PhD and C-BEN Consultant Angie Walker presented with Cheryl Cicotti, CCBA on how to bring the two models together. “In 2021, there were 2,477 CCB students enrolled across seven community colleges in Texas. About 75 percent of these students were enrolled at South Texas College..." Key Findings 🔎 Students in CCB programs are, on average, older than those in associate degree-granting programs at community colleges or students at traditional colleges and universities. However, students in CCB programs in Texas are slightly younger than those in other states. 🔎 CCB students who enrolled and graduated in Texas are predominantly female, Latine, and recipients of Pell Grants. A phenomenal 80 percent of graduates received a Pell Grant. 🔎 2018 graduates of Texas CCB programs are earning a median wage of $44,102 three years after graduation, which is comparable to Texans with bachelor’s degrees writ large. https://lnkd.in/e8Ua2bXk

As an Executive Board member of Kids' Chance of Florida, it is with a grateful and humble heart to partner with industry leaders like One Call, providing an employee-funded scholarship to Florida student Montse Gallegos. In August 2022, Montse’s father, a warehouse manager passed away due to injuries following a workplace accident. Later that year, Montse’s mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. On the heels of an extremely tragic year, the Kids’ Chance of Florida/One Call scholarship is enabling her to attend college without the added stress of tuition payments. “Workplace injuries affect the whole family,” said One Call CEO Jay Krueger. “While trying to overcome grief, families are also forced to deal with mounting financial pressures. We are sensitive to these burdensome situations, which is why we want to be a part of the solution. This scholarship provides the children of critically or fatally injured workers with a path forward. We are proud to play a small role in helping them attain a much brighter future.” Kids’ Chance of Florida is a state chapter of Kids’ Chance of America, a charitable organization that is dedicated to making a significant difference in the lives of all children affected by workplace injuries by helping them pursue and achieve their educational goals. Children of these workers can no longer count on the income of the injured or deceased parent. Accompanying the grief of loss, or the need to deal with an injured parent, is the increased likelihood that they cannot afford a college education. The eight fellows in this year’s cohort have been working and learning in placements at the Mayor’s Office, the Treasurer’s Office and the Board of Aldermen President’s Office in the City of St. Louis; the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation; the Missouri Charter Public School Association; BioSTL; the Cortex Innovation District; North County Inc.; and The SoulFisher Ministries, among others, since starting the program last September. They’re due to contribute roughly 10,000 hours combined working on different high-impact projects throughout their nine months in the program.
