𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟕 - 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨, 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐚: SERVPRO originated as a painting business established by Ted and Doris Isaacson. 𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟗 - 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫: Within two years of its inception, SERVPRO made a pivotal move by becoming a franchisor, initiating its expansion through a franchise model across the United States. 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟗 - 𝐀𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐥-𝐌𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: SERVPRO underwent a transformative expansion by acquiring Bristol-Myers' Domesticare Division, adding 175 franchises. This marked a strategic diversification beyond restoration to include the cleaning of homes and offices. These highlights underscore key milestones in SERVPRO's journey, reflecting its evolution from a local painting business to a nationally recognized franchise in the cleanup, restoration, and cleaning industry.

“You're a much better entrepreneur if you're in multiple brands. That doesn't mean that you should lose focus and be so diversified that you don't know what's going on in your business. What I can tell you is when I started with Little Caesars, I learned that restaurants open very high, and then they trend down once everyone's done eating there three times a month, and it levels out. Salons open up the opposite. Everyone likes to stay with the person who's always cut their hair and they're slow to try a new place. Salons go up over time in volume and restaurants go down a bit and then plateau. The only difference between the two is the excitement and the frequency. You eat three times a day and you typically get a haircut once a month. With this in mind, what if I overhired? Not everyone's going to survive the first week in a restaurant, so you have to overhire. And, what if I overtrained so everyone is competent in giving great customer service? What if I spent all the marketing dollars in the first 30 days that I would've spent in the first 90 days? What if I did that for a salon? I started breaking all the grand opening records for Sport Clips. I think I own seven of the ten biggest grand openings ever for them.” We’re grateful for Jesse’s insights into the contrasting experiences of owning brands in different industries. Jesse currently owns multiple Sport Clips, Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning, and Ideal Image locations. He previously owned multiple Little Caesars and Valpak locations.
