As part of Volunteer Week, we had the privilege of speaking with Larne Thompson, a former Officer in the RAF Regiment, and one of our exceptional responders, about what it means to be a REACT Responder. Larne spoke passionately about being "useful." For many ex-forces and emergency service personnel, civilian life can feel anticlimactic, with a real fear of feeling "useless." As Larne explained, “After I retired, I wanted to do something exciting, varied, social, whilst being useful.” This desire to be 'useful' is the driving force behind REACT Responders, creating a powerful impact for both society and our volunteers themselves. This is how we transform ordinary actions into life-saving interventions. ------- 🌟 Volunteers from military and emergency backgrounds bring a disciplined, effective approach to crisis management. Their readiness can mean the difference between life and death. 🌍 Global humanitarian needs are more complex than ever. Traditional aid organizations are often stretched thin. REACT's volunteer-driven model fills these critical gaps, ensuring vulnerable populations receive timely assistance. 🚨 We are committed to being ready at a moment’s notice. With a goal of responding to domestic crises within six hours and global crises within 24 hours, our trained volunteer Responders are essential for effective emergency response. But we can’t do it without you. ------- JOIN US! As Larne said, “It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, we are all volunteers.” We welcome responders from any professional background to join us and make a real difference. Your skills, dedication, and readiness to serve can change lives. 👉 Connect with us on LinkedIn or visit our website to learn more. #VolunteerWeek #Humanitarian #CrisisResponse #VolunteerOpportunity

Joint Task Force Bravo, United States Army (Soto Cano Airbase, Honduras) continues to improve the infrastructure and the living experience for Joint Task Force-Bravo personnel and Honduran partners. Efforts from ASA-Soto Cano included re-implementing mosquito vector control, continuing work to install a new water distribution plant with the aim to provide potable water on Soto Cano in the summer of 2024, revamping and repairing the aging flightline infrastructure, and continuing efforts to remove over-ground electrical wiring to protect the facilities and service members on post. “The health and wellbeing of our Soldiers, Marines and Airmen, and our civilians and Honduran Air Force hosts on the installation is a top priority,” said U.S. Army Col. Paul Witkowski, ASA-Soto Cano commander. “These projects continue to promote conditions that support U.S. presence here in Honduras and ensure our service members can serve to their full potential without worrying about living conditions on post.” Read more http://spr.ly/6043pOStJ We Are The #ArmysHome #PeopleFirst

Keep in mind that "public service" covers a huge range of professions and there isn't a better time to enter the building code industry. If people have questions in how the building code industry works, I'm happy to answer these. The VA helped me find my career path after I was injured serving in the Navy. As code officials (building inspector, plans examiner, building official, fire marshal, and the the like), we play a somewhat passive role in community safety, when compared with the roles of Police and Fire personnel. We keep communities safe by verifying structures meet minimum codes. Are you someone who pays close attention to details and who possesses exceptional interpersonal skills? The code industry may be the avenue to pursue. #careers #buildingcodes #buildinginspection #publicservice #civilservice #codeofficial #iccsafe #veteransaffairs #communitysafety #safecommunities
DoD leaders recently gave their thoughts on how the department can better publicize the plethora of opportunities there are to serve in the military or as a civilian. For instance, young people who aren’t eligible for military service have several other options, such as the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps. Also, public servants can help simply by spreading the word of what it’s like to give back to society.

Community + Military + Trust = 😃 Often times, active duty service members will flag an issue to surrounding communities, which they could otherwise not discuss, for one reason or another. For instance, I was not initially tracking the proposed homeowners insurance rate hikes. A #marine, who lived along the coast, was told he couldn’t testify at the state capitol regarding the hikes and their impact on quality of life. So, I testified. Years back, I was quite vocal about concerns surrounding the COVID vaccine and its inconsistent implementation across the Marine Corps. Nearly every concern I voiced was merely an amplification of concerns from SEAs and COs in the greater 5 county area. Most recently, I sat through recruiting sessions which were objectively frustrating to the #Marines in the room. Politics abound, they felt they couldn’t speak up, so I took down their concerns. When we look at successful defense communities, there is one common thread across them all - they are the voice of the base. Whether it’s milcon, policy, or programming, no one knows better than the marines what is needed. But often times, no one can advocate for those things quite like their civilian counterparts. When communities listen to and effectively relay base concerns, you see success. Alternatively, when the trust between community and commands erodes, you see significant struggles. If at any point the bases cannot trust their surrounding community to properly advocate on their behalf, fissures will grow. In larger teams, like Allies for Cherry Point or NCMAC, you’ll find we tend to have passion projects, or areas we’re a bit more focused on than others. For instance, I track the budget and milcon, but solely to back-fill when someone else isn’t available in conversations. My specialty is “people.” If you need to know what the Marines are thinking about any given topic, at any given time, that’s where I come in. Whatever your passion is, identify it, lean in, and use it to support the base. #semperfi 📸: that’s my best friend ☺️ ____________ Association of Defense Communities (ADC) #marinecorps #2maw #2mef #northcarolina #militaryaffairs #milcon #defense #veteransstrengtheningamerica #betheone

As we think about veterans this week, for Candid insights in an interview with Anne Marie Dougherty, CEO at the Bob Woodruff Foundation, we discussed why supporting veterans and military families' unmet basic needs via more holistic funding and assistance programs is key to improving the health and livelihoods of U.S. veterans. "...a 'cascade effect', a downward spiral of interconnected events, could lead to veterans needing assistance and how reduced assistance can impact their physical and mental health." #veterans #memorialday #mentalhealth https://lnkd.in/e2MCwpgd
