Today, access to modern education and information about addiction & recovery is critical to reducing the stigma. The more we can provide accessible, digestible education to communities, the more we can shift perceptions from judgment to understanding; inviting others to the conversation in an approachable way. After hundreds of community gatherings & events, we've learned 3 important things: 1) there's a vital need for basic education & information 2) most everyone is affected 3) people want to help but are unsure how We share expert education and information from Recovery Research Institute, Addiction Policy Forum and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in communities through our magazine and in person events. Using the magazine as a communication vehicle, we encourage people to share what they learn. Learn it, share it, save a life. You just never know who in your orbit is struggling and is looking for path. The ripple effect of one person sharing hope-full information may never be known or proven with data but know that it happens. This is a community public health problem that needs a community solution. #MentalHealth #AddictionRecovery #Support #Awareness #Education

🌟 September is Recovery Month! 🌟 As a specialist in US Healthcare, I want to take a moment to highlight the significance of Recovery Month this September. This month is dedicated to honoring the journeys of those who have overcome addiction and mental health challenges, and it serves as a vital reminder of the importance of support, understanding, and community. In the behavioral health field, we see firsthand how recovery transforms lives. It’s about more than just overcoming obstacles; it’s about rebuilding connections, rediscovering purpose, and creating a brighter future. Our work in recruitment plays a crucial role in connecting dedicated professionals with the resources and environments where they can make a real difference. This month, let’s focus on raising awareness about the importance of accessible treatment, the value of a supportive community, and the incredible potential for recovery. Together, we can advocate for those in need and help break the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction. #RecoveryMonth #BehavioralHealth #Recruitment #Hope #Support #MentalHealthAwareness

🧠 Why Stigma Matters in Mental Health and Addiction 🧠 Stigma is more than just a word—it's a barrier that keeps countless individuals from seeking the help they need. In the world of mental health and Substance Use Disorder, stigma leads to discrimination, isolation, and unnecessary suffering. It's time to break down these barriers and build a more understanding and supportive community. 🌟 Top 3 Ways We Can Address Stigma: 1. 📚 Education and Awareness - Promote understanding and empathy by educating the public about the realities of mental health and addiction. - Implement community programs to encourage informed discussions. 2. 📣 Advocacy and Policy Change - Advocate for policies that protect the rights of those affected and ensure access to essential services. - Encourage inclusive practices in organizations and institutions. 3. 🗣️ Language and Media Representation - Use and promote respectful language that honors individuals' dignity. - Support positive and accurate portrayals in media to shift public perceptions. Let's work together to create a world where everyone feels empowered to seek help and support. 🌍💪 #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #Advocacy #Education #Support #AddictionRecovery

🧠Mental Health Representation Matters🧠 As a licensed clinician and addiction specialist, I work with our most vulnerable populations every single day. From crisis intervention to providing long-term care, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges people face in accessing mental health services. This is why I’m running for Asheville City Council — because we need a voice at the table that understands these issues from the inside out. Mental health is not just a talking point; it’s a critical issue that touches every aspect of our community — from homelessness to public safety, from addiction to education, and even to how we create more affordable housing. These are the real challenges Asheville is facing, and we need someone who can bring practical, compassionate solutions rooted in experience. We cannot thrive as a city if our citizens are struggling with untreated mental health issues. We need to make sure our mental health infrastructure is built up, accessible, and strong enough to support everyone in our community. We need to invest in community-based mental health services, address addiction as a public health crisis, and support programs that provide intervention before tragedy strikes. Mental health. Mental health. Mental health. It is central to a thriving, inclusive, and safe Asheville. My campaign is not just about electing a city council member; it’s about ensuring mental health has a seat at the table and that every citizen is given the support and resources they need to live with dignity and hope. If you believe in creating a stronger, healthier Asheville, vote Bo Hess on November 5th. Let’s bring mental health to the forefront where it belongs. #BoHessForCouncil #MentalHealthMatters #ThriveTogether #AshevilleMentalHealth #mentalhealthforall

Federal agencies have proposed much stronger parity rules, a critical step forward in the fight for mental health equity. These rules will help deliver on the promise of parity – improved access to life-saving mental health and addiction care services. The overwhelming support for these rules, demonstrated by nearly 10,000 public comments, with over 95% in favor, underscores a collective understanding that mental health and addiction care can no longer be an afterthought in this country. NAADAC is proud to support strong parity rules. https://bit.ly/43BSDo0
