According to the National Council on Aging, LGBTQ+ older adults have higher rates of chronic conditions, such as cancer and heart disease. At ConcertoCare, we place health equity at the center of our care model and rigorously work to identify and address social determinants of health (SDOH) that may lead to such disparities. https://bit.ly/3oCV1dU

#UnderTheScope It is LGBT+ History Month and we are looking at medicine and the health inequalities and experiences those in the LGBT+ community may be facing. According to Beat, those in the LGBT+ community are disproportionately affected by eating disorders. This could be from discrimination, fear of not being accepted, feelings around body image, internalised shame and many other factors. Rethink Mental Illness has stated that 4 in 10 adults who identify as LGBT+ are likely to experience shame due to their body image, in comparison to less than 2 in 10 adults who do not identify as LGBT+. Our services Connect and Link-ED are here to support those who may be struggling with an eating disorder. Everyone deserves support, regardless of how they identify.
