I’m very pleased to announce our new partnership with HOSA-Future Health Professionals, the largest student-led healthcare organization in the country. Nearly 10 years ago, I attended my first HOSA conference in Anaheim, CA, and here’s what I remember. A student came up to me and initiated a conversation (impressive on its own). She asked me where I was from, what I did for work, how I got that job, lessons learned, and so on. She was from Brownsville, TX, was the first person in her family to graduate high school, and had just been accepted to Harvard to study medicine. Her goal was to find a cure for a rare medical condition her grandmother had. I was blown away by the students I met there – how they presented themselves, held conversations, and expressed their interest in making a positive impact. The crazy part was I continued to have conversation after conversation with students like that for the remainder of the conference. That’s when I knew this organization was one of the best-kept secrets in the country, and I had to support these students any way I could. Here at Connections Academy, we are really appreciative of the innovative approach of the HOSA leadership team—Sarah Walters, MMHC, MSN, APRN, CPNP-AC, Jim Koeninger, PhD, Karen Koeninger, Bobby Crandall and team have built. I can’t wait to see what our two organizations are able to achieve together as we help cultivate and connect the workforce of the future. From the Connections Academy POV, I’m eager to get this partnership going because the Young people we serve are hungry for opportunities where they can explore different fields to refine and discover what they’d like to do in the future. This partnership is the perfect place for thousands of students to learn and test out their interests in the largest and fastest growing area of employment in our country. Today, healthcare providers need to fill a staggering 1.8M jobs each year and healthcare careers are slated to grow another 13% on top of that by 2031. The partnership will provide Connections Academy students (and their parents!) with hands-on experience, the chance to develop key skills healthcare companies are looking for, and vital connections to businesses. To do this, the program will connect CA students to: ● Local, regional, and international healthcare competitions, and ● Healthcare providers and organizations with a vested interest in healthcare and developing talent (firms like CVS Health, Johnson & Johnson, management consulting firms, US government, defense and humanitarian agencies, and top-tier medical schools and organizations). Participating students will walk away from this program with a new sense of confidence that will come from the experience, skills, and relationships they will develop. To learn more, check out the link or feel free to hit me up.

M4 and the interview szn has brought time to reflect on my M3 rotations. I would like to humbly share some of the things that I consider key during that year 🧵 #MedPeds #Medicine 🩺 1. Be kind to everyone regardless of their position. You will work with interprofesional teams, always introduce yourself, your role, come in with a smile, and try to call everyone by their last name and not just by their position. Verbalize your gratitude 🫂 2. Take your time with the patients. Probably you are the member of the medical team with most time on your hands, take advantage of it and advocate for your patients and their needs. Spend time with them with multiple visits during the day and culture a humanistic approach towards patient care 🕰️ 3. Show adequate initiative at work, but don't push it too far. Be there early, offer your assistance with day to day tasks and ask if there is anything else that you can help with. Ask questions. Print the lists. Ask if you can help calling consultants 🫡 4. Don't be afraid to ask for feedback, particularly on your clinical history, physical examination and note writing. This is the time to start polishing these skills, receive these feedbacks sessions with a lot of humility as there is a lot to learn 📈 5. Study. For me this meant reading or seeing content (AMBOSS and OMed), using anki and doing UWorld Qbank. Put emphasis on the shelf examinations and the Step 2. It is a great time to develop clinical reasoning through study sessions 📚

As I reflect on my career trajectory, I'm reminded of the stark contrasts between my early days and where I stand now. Starting out as a doctor in a District General Hospital (DGH), I was solely responsible for navigating my training landscape. The more complex cases were often reserved for the consultant and I was left to independently seek out research topics without guidance from my seniors. The path was solitary; no advice on refining my papers, no direction on suitable journals for publication, no encouragement to pursue leadership roles. It was a journey of self-reliance, echoing the experiences of many in similar positions. However, the tide turned with the completion of my FRCS exam. Transitioning to a fellowship in a university hospital, I found an environment that not only recognized my skills but also fostered their growth. I was thrust into national-level trials, surrounded by projects ripe for publication, and supported by professors eager to mentor. Involvement in teaching both core and higher surgical trainees became second nature, and my quality improvement initiatives were met with mentorship and support, propelling meaningful changes. To those feeling confined by their current roles, remember: there's a place where your potential can flourish. If my journey resonates with you, know that I am here to support your transition to an institution that values and elevates your contributions. #CareerGrowth #Leadership #MedicalProfessionals #FRCS #Fellowship #continuousimprovement

PART 1: Embarking on the journey of university, I’ve come to understand that while “A picture speaks a thousands words”, it often fails to capture the depth of our experiences. Behind the seemingly serene graduation photos lie tales of the countless hours of studying, moments of doubts trying to be good enough, the hustle and bustle, and many drops of blood, sweat and tears. These past four years was filled with challenges and triumphs, where time seemed to both fly by and stand still. Yet amidst the chaos of trying to balance academic and life’s demands, hard work and perseverance remained constant companions, guiding me through every hurdle and leading me to this moment of achievement. 🎓 This year marks the beginning of working towards a goal of mine that I’ve long envisioned during my undergraduate years. Equally a very exciting and nerve-wrecking adventure. I’ve embarked on pursuing my Masters degree in Clinical Pharmacy at UWC as an academic intern. Standing on the brink of walking into the unknown, feeling like I don’t know a thing and don’t know what lies ahead and my confidence a lottle ( yes- this was intensionally miss-spelled because the word “little” doesn’t resonate with my feeling, but I still want to stay positive 🤪) stirred. Yet I remind myself that every journey starts with a single step. And so, here I am, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that awaits. 💡 One thing I definitely can say for certain is that I’ve encountered some surprising elements that I never expected. They’ve been both unimaginable and simultaneous mind-blowing, providing me with exposure to experiences I would have never fathomed receiving. 👀 👉 See the following post for part ✌️

Time for a bit of midweek reflection 💭 I have now been with the Nuneaton and Bedworth PCN for nearly 1 month and I can truely say that this last month has been incredible! I have been leading and collaborating on some incredible digital projects already to help transform patient care due to be released within Q4! The Board and PCN team have welcomed me and made me feel comfortable within a matter of days (usually I am a guarded person) I am continuing to study my Project Management Degree Apprenticeship with Arden University and I am nearly at the end of my first year! 😱 I have started to build working relationships with all 16 member practices & assist them with improving their practice data But best of all: - I am happy - I am logging off at night… on time! - My mood has lifted and I feel so genuinely positive as it is easy for me to cover when I am not whilst at work - I am taking regular breaks and exercising (when not raining ☔️) - Work/Life Balance feels incredible, I have more time to treasure those memories with family Anyway the point to all this is that within the quote… if I hadn’t chose to close the chapter on my previous role, I would not have known how within walking distance there was another opportunity that provides a better experience and a chance to make a difference If you are thinking of taking a leap of faith, my advice… just do it 👌🏼 trust your gut! #greatful #primarycare #digitaltransformation
