In the early 1990s, Conoco, The Jane Goodall Institute and the Government of the Congo worked together to improve the living conditions of captive orphan chimpanzees. Decades since ConocoPhillips exited the country, the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center has continued to be a haven for hundreds of chimpanzees. PETAN ADVOCATES LOCAL CONTENT IN NIGERIA'S OIL PRODUCTION, PLEDGES SUPPORT TO WEED OUT 'MIDDLEMEN BUSINESSES'
https://lnkd.in/eZdJMKVX
Listen to excerpts of PETAN Chairman and CEO, Geoplex Drillteq Limited , Engr. Wole Ogunsanya 's contribution to the topic 'Nigerian Content As A Business Enabler' earlier today at a panel discussion at the ongoing NOG Energy Week Conference & Exhibition
His submission is that Nigerian Content has been a business enabler as it has enhanced local operators to offer services in the oil and gas industry that was hitherto offered by multinationals.
"PETAN, which clocks 30 years in the oil and gas industry this year, is essentially, the sponsor of the local content law, and in contributing to shape that law, submitted the clause that in the case of divestments in oil and gas assets in Nigeria, Nigerian companies should have first consideration and we're happy to see that these opportunities are birthing strategic collaborations by lowering barrier of entry for local operators, retaining millions of dollars' worth of investment in-country, and building Nigerian brands that work in and beyond Africa".
On 'middlemen businesses' that cast shadow on the competencies and integrity of Nigerian oil and gas operators, he expressed the readiness of PETAN to partner relevant stakeholders such as the NCDMB Online and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to weed them out through the introduction of a PETAN's seal of quality with an internationally recognised certification company to serve as an additional layer of authenticating those listed on the NCDMB's NOGIC JQS portal and NUPRC's National Data Repository".

There's no doubt that #algal oil products are on the rise - especially with consumers seeking #sustainable alternatives. It's worth mentioning that while fish oil is typically seen as the go-to for omega-3s, algal oil provides remarkably similar (and sometimes even equivalent) levels of this essential nutrient.
Check out this new product certification launched by SGS Nutrasource for algal oil #naturalhealthproducts. This certification will help shoppers identify third-party tested supplements for quality, safety, and purity.

Today, on the United Nations' World Environment Day, Anglo American claims that they, “have a responsibility to ensure that land is restored to how it was before our stewardship.”
This statement is completely at odds with the reality of Anglo American’s toxic legacy in #Kabwe, Zambia, where tens of thousands of children and women of child-bearing age allege that they have been poisoned by lead left behind by the Kabwe Mine, which was an Anglo American mine for nearly 50 years (1925-1974).
Today, people in Kabwe still live in one of the most polluted places in the world. Their homes, gardens, schools, public areas, and roads are polluted with lead. The World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are clear: there's no safe level of lead exposure. Studies show alarmingly high lead levels in children, with lasting health consequences like brain damage and even death. Generations have suffered.
Anglo American knew of the dangers of environmental lead poisoning around Kabwe communities and failed to prevent harm coming to the children and women of the local communities.
Now, Anglo American South Africa is facing a class action lawsuit. The Kabwe Claimants allege that Anglo American South Africa is liable because it played a key role in controlling, managing, supervising and advising on technical, medical, and safety aspects of the operations of the Mine, deficiencies in which resulted in heavy contamination of the local environment with lead.
In a recent development in this case, on Friday April 19, the Johannesburg High Court granted the Kabwe Claimants permission to appeal a recent judgment which denied class certification of this class action. The case for certification will now be heard by South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal.
Follow our social media channels for the latest updates on the claim or visit the Children of Kabwe website.

Although things are slowly improving, 2.2 billion of the world's people still do not have access to "safely managed water" ie "drinking water from an improved source that is accessible on premises, available when needed and free from faecal and priority chemical contamination" (UNICEF). Sadly, due to the situation in the region at the moment, the Board and I have decided that I can't go to Ethioipia to continue our work. Instead we are going to concentrate on raising our profile, attracting funding and looking forward to a stellar 2025 building season #waterforavillage#SDG6#waterforafrica
Watch as Chad Leman of the Illinois Pork Producers Association shares his journey from uncertainty to fully embracing NPPC's Strategic Investment Program (SIP).
"At first, I wasn’t sure about SIP, but as I got more involved, it became clear how vital it is. As hog producers, we simply don’t have the time to go to the capitols and lobby for ourselves. We need NPPC staff building those relationships and advocating on our behalf," Chad explains.
The SIP plays a crucial role in strengthening advocacy efforts and addressing policy threats that impact hog farmers across the nation. As Chad says, 'What you invest in SIP will bring great value to your farm today and, hopefully, to the next generation tomorrow.'

The cooperative structure system can play an important role in the development of the 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝.
The new 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 mentions cooperatives as an element to be involved in biomethane projects, not only to transfer the commitment to collect and supply raw materials and to manage logistics, but also to transfer to members the value created, the digestate obtained and the energy produced, whether electrical, thermal or fuel.
We spoke about this important role with the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society, the national coordinating body for the cooperative sector in Ireland: https://bit.ly/3yAdm0h
