Yesterday, we welcomed MPP Zee Hamid to Kelso Conservation Area to announce new funding for our educational programming. With support from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, Conservation Halton is launching Green Legacies, a partnership initiative that will create more opportunities for seniors to connect with nature, take part in climate action, and stay active in their communities. Thank you, MPP Zee Hamid and the provincial government, for announcing this new investment and for recognizing and honouring the dedicated staff and volunteers who shaped the Green Legacies program!

Rx fire plays an important role in forest health and public safety in areas where civilization meets forest. It is very challenging to accomplish in the west.
Colorado State University , the University of Michigan , Rural Voices for Conservation Coalition , the Fire Learning Network, The Nature Conservancy , and The Watershed Research and Training Center have completed a groundbreaking report on non-governmental organizations conducting prescribed fire in the western United States > available here > https://zurl.co/PrqK This report builds on previous work and offers insights into 76 organizations seeking funding to expand workforce, enhance partnerships, and scale up prescribed fire efforts. On February 8, 2023, Assemblymember Gail Pellerin of the 28th Assembly District introduced Assembly Bill 2103 (formerly 566), which will allow California State Parks to more effectively work with conservation organizations to protect priority lands and grow Big Basin, Butano, and Año Nuevo State Parks —a region with incredible biodiversity and natural resources recently devastated by the 2020 CZU Fire. 🌲 🌲 🌲 On May 16, 2024, Assembly Bill 2103 passed the California State Assembly appropriations committee. This is another step closer to rebuilding parks like Big Basin Redwoods State Park and protecting our recovering habitats, but AB 2103 needs to keep moving through the Assembly to become a reality. ▶️ ▶️ ▶️ Will you urge state leadership to support AB 2103 to rebuild State Parks?: https://bit.ly/3V89Xyc

Scientists predict we could lose half of all species by 2050, unless we act now. New federal legislation, the U.S. Foundation for International Conservation Act, would be a huge step toward promoting long-term, effective conservation strategies for lands and waters across the planet. With growing bipartisan support in Congress, this legislation would: 💸 Provide $2 billion for international conservation efforts over the next decade 🌍 Ensure Indigenous Peoples and local communities have the tools and resources needed to manage their protected and conserved areas 🤝 Incentivize philanthropic and private giving to match government investments to provide consistent funding for critical landscapes and habitats Learn how this bill would fuel global conservation efforts at https://lnkd.in/exGMykxV

President Wildlife Habitat Council | President and CEO World Environment Center | Author of Strategic Corporate Conservation Planning
Every year I get to deliver what we call the State of Corporate Conservation speech Wildlife Habitat Council #WHCCon and every year I struggle to balance sobering statistics on the state of our natural world with impact stories from across our membership. Too much bad news and the audience zones out, too much good news and we forget our imperative to act. This year, using 'time' as a theme, I sought to build a bridge between the nature-rich world of the past to a nature-positive world of the future, using our nature-poor world of the present as the benchmark. I spotlighted programs as diverse as Freeport-McMoRan's efforts to better understand #SingingDogs in Papua; Boston Properties (BXP)'s approach to managing office parks for nature; Toyota North America's pledge to convert 85% of lawns into #habitat; FirstEnergy's work using nature to alleviate the urban heat island effect in Texas and; Anglo American's program to restore polylepis forests in Chile. The spotlight served to show again, as I try to do every year, that action can and must happen everywhere if we are to turn our global nature deficit into a vibrant nature surplus.
