Looking forward to attending Footprint+ 2024 tomorrow! Hope to see some of you there. I’ll be starting with the breakfast briefing with Modus: How is ESG driving asset performance?
The built environment is the largest source of climate emissions after surface transport.
In numbers, our industry is responsible for approximately 40% of global emissions.
As project managers, we recognise that we have a key role to play in reducing the impact of our industry and facilitating more sustainable projects.
That's why, next week, you can find us at FOOTPRINT+ in London, for two days of knowledge sharing, networking and exploring innovative ways to achieve a more sustainable industry.
Planning to attend the conference too?
Look out for the following Buro Four delegates, who will be joining the event at Old Billingsgate from 8-9 May:
🔸 Ruth Oates
🔸 Keith Davies
🔸 Rosanna Johnson
🔸 Martina Concordia

📣 Our Science Based Targets have been approved
At NOD - Network of Design we commit to urgent climate action. We believe in reaching ambitious goals through cooperation: Within our group and with like-minded partners.
We are happy to announce that our climate reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Target initiative where:
🍃NOD - Network of Design commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2023 base year.
🍃NOD - Network of Design also commits to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 52% per SEK value added within the same timeframe.
"It has been a true team effort, where all NOD group companies have contributed and we have learned a great deal along the way. At NOD we focus on responsible environmental and social practices and it is our obligation to deliver our share of climate action“ says CEO Therese Hillman.
Great work by Jonas Wetterlöf, Mirkku Kullberg, Oscar von Konow, Joakim Ståhl, Malin Hultqvist and their respective teams👏
🌍 Driving Sustainability in Construction 🚜
The CEA (Construction Equipment Association) is making significant strides toward a greener future, as highlighted in the latest CAFA Climate Action for Associations progress update.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
✔️ Supporting members with insights into industry challenges and opportunities, like alternative fuels and construction EVs.
✔️ Reengaging with disengaged members and tailoring solutions to meet their needs.
✔️ Collaborating with policymakers to address barriers and align goals with a 1.5°C target.
✔️ Leading the way by exploring internal sustainability initiatives, from emissions measurement to actionable reduction plans.
"We’re proud of the progress made but know there’s still work to do. We can accelerate change across the industry by sharing resources, measuring impact, and staying committed to collaboration." Viki Bell
Thank you to CAFA for their ongoing guidance and benchmarking support!

Great article from Lori Ferriss, AIA, PE.
To make real progress on climate change, we need to recognize that culture is not just a backdrop but an active, powerful force in the transition to a resilient and carbon-positive future. Integrating cultural perspectives into climate strategies—especially through existing and heritage buildings—offers significant untapped potential. These buildings provide low-carbon solutions through passive design principles and repairable materials, reducing the need for new construction while engaging communities in climate action.
As the 2024 UNEP Gap Report shows, the world is falling short of the Paris Agreement targets, and addressing the climate crisis requires more than just scientific and technological solutions. Cultural heritage is a key piece of the puzzle, deepening community engagement, encouraging the reuse of structures, and promoting a more inclusive, people-centered approach to sustainability. What are we saving from climate change, if not our culture?

Mark your calendars for May 23rd and join Beyond21 Academy with the Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program (STEP) for a one-time special event: Introduction to Low-Impact Development (LID).
This course is pre-approved toward your ENV SP credential maintenance hours so you can earn mandatory annual credential maintenance hours with us while ensuring that you stay up-to-date with the latest developments in green infrastructure practices.
Low Impact Development (LID) is an innovative stormwater management approach that treats, infiltrates, filters and retains runoff at the source. LID practices have been successfully implemented for decades, gaining traction across Ontario and Canada as practitioners recognize the importance of building water-resilient communities.
