The Geode at Tippet Rise Art Center has been named one of TIME's World’s Greatest Places of 2025! A total design project led by our Raj Patel, the Geode combines an array of our skills and services to create a unique open-air concert hall without walls. Nestled against the backdrop of Montana’s stunning Beartooth Mountains, Geode features a cluster of four acoustical shelters set in a carefully selected natural bowl overlooking the mountains. A parametric model combined with the Arup SoundLab was used to develop and refine the final design which protects musicians and visitors from the natural elements while immersing them in the surrounding landscape and a stunningly rich acoustic environment. Geode is the latest addition to the site that, beginning in 2011, was masterplanned, designed and delivered by Arup after an invitation from Tippet Rise's founders, Cathy and Peter Halstead. The Innovent Biologics Global R&D Center is now open in Shanghai, revolutionising biopharmaceutical research in the region. Appointed by Innovent Biotechnology Co., Ltd, we brought together a team of experts in architecture, structural, MEP, façade, fire, traffic and sustainability to create a space that seamlessly merges scientific exploration with cutting-edge technology. Spanning 37,000m² in the vibrant heart of Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District, the R&D hub is set to drive breakthroughs in oncology, metabolism, immunology and ophthalmology research. Our design philosophy prioritised creating an environment conducive to interaction and creativity that supports multidisciplinary collaboration. One of the key features is the 4,000m² canopy in the central area, forming a semi-outdoor atrium with natural ventilation for users to rejuvenate, immerse in seasonal beauty and elevate their research experience. This project encapsulates our unwavering commitment to innovation, collaboration and sustainability in scientific facilities. Learn more: https://bit.ly/43GBpaS #WeAreArup #BiopharmaceuticalResearch

Congratulations to our own Andy Sedgwick, who has been made honorary fellow by the RIBA. Andy is someone everyone wants on their team, especially when the chips are down and wise decisions need to be made. Last year, Andy talked about what we mean at Arup when we talk about being committed to ‘straight and honourable dealings’. This is one of our core aims, and Andy's message is an important one.

The introduction of the collaborative NEC contract has been crucial in our work to accelerate the reconstruction of schools, healthcare facilities, and flood prevention infrastructure - improving the lives of millions in Peru. Following the success of this effort, the UK Embassy in Peru (Embajada Británica Lima) has launched the first-ever Spanish translation of the NEC4 contract, helping to standardise its use across the country. This is the first time the NEC contract has been translated into another language. By fostering transparency and proactive collaboration between the client and contractor, NEC helps prevent costly disputes and delays, so that vital infrastructure is delivered faster and to the highest standards. Watch this short film to see how the UK Delivery Team - including us, Mace, and Gleeds - has successfully implemented NEC for projects in Peru with our partner, Autoridad Nacional de Infraestructura (ANIN). ‘’We all have power. Our voice, our unity, our platforms - we are all drops in the ocean, and drops make the ocean.” Last week, we had the privilege of hosting ‘In Conversation with Khalida Popal’ in our Leeds office, a powerful discussion on resilience, equality, and the role of sport in driving change. Khalida Popal, the founder of Girl Power Organisation and former captain of the Afghanistan women’s national football team, shared her incredible journey - from breaking barriers in Afghan football to advocating for women’s rights and supporting refugee communities worldwide. Her message was clear: progress has been made, but there is still so much to do. “We celebrate history and achievements, but women around the world still face barriers to equal participation in society.” As we reflect on International Women’s Day and this year’s theme - For all women and girls: rights, equality, empowerment - Khalida’s words remind us of our collective responsibility. At Arup, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where women can reach their full potential. Our ConnectWomen network is just one example of how we support women throughout their careers, ensuring that doors remain open for the next generation. Thank you to Khalida and everyone who joined us for this inspiring conversation. Let’s keep the momentum going. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #Equality #Empowerment #WomenInLeadership #ConnectWomen
