In today's fragile world, Europe must step up and take the lead. It's crucial that the newly elected European Parliament members and future Commissioners focus on addressing global fragility. Today, we conclude our conference, "New Momentum: #WesternBalkans on the Road to EU Enlargement," with discussion sessions 4 and 5. ➡️ We began the day with session 4: "External Actors and their Influence on the EU Enlargement Process." What role do external actors play within the democratization process, and what geopolitical interests are they pursuing? What role does #disinformation play? Our participants addressed these questions and engaged with expert input from Dr. Jens Bastian and Dr. Marina Vulovic. Thanks also to Wouter Zweers for moderating this important discussion. ➡️ Our final session, "Reducing Political Polarization as a Prerequisite for EU Accession," featured input on the polarization of political debate, how it impacts the enlargement process, and how it can be contained. We are grateful for input and participation from the #Bundestag as well as #CivilSociety - Thomas Hacker, MdB, Christian Petry, MdB, Dr. Christina Griessler of netPOL, and Petr Cermak of AMO - Association for International Affairs, as well as moderator Dr Ardita Abazi Imeri. After lunch, we'll head to the Spree for a cultural excursion and some final exchanges over dinner before saying goodbye, at least until our next Aspen Western Balkans Initiative conference! #AspenWB

Excerpt of the #CH new Strategy on Foreign Policy: "Overall, the strategic orientation of international cooperation in 2021–24 has proven its worth. Cooperation activities have had to be adapted time and again due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war against #ukraine, coups, state over-indebtedness and numerous natural catastrophes. Switzerland has demonstrated that it has the necessary flexibility to deal with this. Flexibility will also be a feature of the #internationalcooperation Strategy 2025–28, which will place more emphasis on areas like health, promotion of #foodsecurity and democracy.
