  • While “green building” has become a popular topic among real estate developers, concerns over #biodiversity are still scarce. True to its Swedish standards of innovation, lifestyle and sustainability, White Peak Real Estate Investment pays great attention to its landscape design, that should benefit both residents and nature, and was therefore awarded with Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) - Environmental Pioneer Award by European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.   White Peak latest project in Chengde, located on a hillside and connected to a forest park, was designed with biodiversity in mind. The objective was to reduce the impact from land artificialization by restoring vegetation and animal habitat, strengthening water retention, creating cool island effect, and helping people reconnect with nature.   The project was rewarded by a SITES Gold pre-certification, attesting to the #sustainability and resilience of the landscape. An expert report measured the effectiveness of the program, showing positive results. Visitors can easily see wild squirrels, hedgehogs, pollinators, and various bird species. Through community engagement programs, the park has become a key selling point of the project. White Peak continues to apply biodiversity design in its new projects and was recently certified SITES in Qingdao.   The winners of the 2024 Sustainable Business Awards will be announced in September. Stay tuned for more inspiring initiatives from leading Swedish companies! Credits: EUCCC and White Peak

  • Can trees help us get cleaner water? Yes, say Swedish researchers. 🧑🔬 We all know that trees do a lot of good, right? But did you know that trees contain cellulose nanocrystals, which are great at absorbing pollutants? 🌳 Based on this knowledge, Chalmers University of Technology has developed a new, cellulose-based material that can purify contaminated water. By using this method, up to 80% of pollutants in water can be absorbed. This has the potential to make a big impact in areas where access to clean water is limited.  How does it work? 💧The treatment system – which is simple and portable – is connected to a sewage pipe. 💧The cellulose-based material in the system works as a filter.  💧The contaminated water passes through the filter. 💧The filter absorbs the pollutants, which are broken down by sunlight, without the need for additional energy or heat. The textile industry is now testing this technology, as a means to combat the problem of toxic textile dye discharge. #ChalmersUniversityofTechnology #Sweden #Research #Water #Textile #Technology

  • This is Hisingsbron, an award-winning bridge crossing the Göta älv river in central Gothenburg. 🌉 With dedicated lanes for buses 🚌 and trams 🚋, as well as separate pathways for pedestrians 🚶 and cyclists 🚴, the bridge is a testament to modern urban connectivity. A standout feature of Hisingsbron is its innovative lift system. The central span is gracefully elevated horisontally to accommodate passing river traffic, seamlessly blending engineering prowess with functional beauty. The bridge was unveiled in 2021 and won the prestigious International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) Award for Small Road and Rail Bridges in 2023. 🌟 Hisingsbron is 1,380 metres long in total – counting all the parts on land – and 40 metres wide. • Summertime in Sweden offers plenty of time for various outdoor activities. But there's no need to buy all kinds of sports gear – just borrow it! Non-profit organisation Fritidsbanken is like a library for sports equipment, available in more than 100 locations across Sweden. The simple idea is that anyone with a storage space full of unused stuff can donate, and people looking for those perfect boxing gloves/life vests or maybe just a football... can borrow what they need for 14 days. Brilliant, right? 😉 Photos: Henric Byström, Fritidsbanken & Phia Bergdahl/Scandinav/imagebank.sweden.se
